Alienware M15x

http://www1.euro.dell.com/es/es/domestica/Port%C3%A1tiles/alienware-m15x/pd.aspx?refid=alienware-m15x&s=dhs&cs=esdhs1

Sorry that the page is in Spanish, but it was necessary to show the price.
In any case I will not spend more that 1100 euros, so please consider that. I only want advice from europeans :-), prices in other parts of the world are totally different. Thanks!!!!

Alienware = overpriced

almost 1200 € for a core i3 with a nvidia 260 ? = ripp-off

look for the following models with the following specs :

MSI gt640, core i7, gt250M (around 800 €)
MSI gx660 , core i5, radeon 5870 ( around 900 €)
Medion erazer x6811 , core i5, gtx 460 M ( around 1100 €)
MSI GT663, core i5, gtx 460 M (about same pricing as the Alienware )

and avoid the Asus G51. it may look tempting, but Msi is more reliable ( I have an Asus G60..).

As you may know from some of my other recent post im no expert on computers. What I would say is with AlienWare your paying a premium for the brand.

What? You switched the fan on your GFX card and you can read the temps... you're too hard on yourself.

I completely agree with Phc7006. Alienware is a rip-off, you pay a premium for the looks it seems.
You get far better machines from Asus, Acer, or MSI for that price.

My sister has a MSI Notebook, it may have an intel igp but it still does its job very well and is very reliable. Otherwise I've experience with their Mobos and they're of great quality (10+ year old PCs still running without a hitch today).

I had two bad experiences with Acer, no more.

In my friends/relatives, two have MSI laptops and are very happy about their purchase

one is a FX series with a turion processor. a cheap all use config but very neat and not bad for its price ( in the 600 € )

the other is 6 months old, a gx660 like this one : http://www.materiel.net/ordinateur-portable/msi-gx660-e6605-439fr-60562.html. And it sure beats my G60 for everything

one good think is that they gave priority to a good heat dissipation.

as for the Medion, this one, and only this one, is worth considering because it is based on an msi . just have a look on the core i7 : http://www.materiel.net/ordinateur-portable/medion-erazer-x6811-md97652-61917.html and look at the difference with the alienware

My brother has had the same Asus pc for 8 years, He only uses it for the net but it runs smooth as silk, However id be suprized if even Tetris looked good on it.

yes, but Asus has somehow changed i think. It's worth browsing the net for customers opinions on their G series. having one I can tell you that some parts are very "cheap" . I don't think mine will last very long. so I won't recommend them

Yep, go for MSI!
Building it yourself isn't an option? You'd save a lot of money and get exactly the computer you want that way.
I have that laptop but done by ASUS and i only dropped about a grand on it. the 260m is the best card you can buy in the dx10 laptop market unless you wanna find something with the 280...

thankfully the DX11 games are few and far between and no laptop in existence will even touch DX11 without massive heat issues and performance decrease.

remember that a laptop gaming machine should be considered only for last gen games.. EG this game can run Crysis amazingly but don't expect it to do anything beyond that tech.

Make sure you have all the ram you can afford, a nice HDD ((SDD if you can)) and get a proper cooling mat to put it on.
