Wow ... it's a relief to hear that everyone is alright. It's pretty uncanny that we were having a conversation at dinner tonight about a situation very much like this in South Africa. To come home and read this is a shocking contrast to my own life. You really came through for your family. Your Dad, too. Well done! Be safe, Barefoot.
Damn, that's some scary shit! Great acting on your part with the keys and during the face off to not let them overpower you. Glad to hear you and your family are for the most part okay after the commotion, probably just shaken up a bit. Take care, Barefoot.
Major kudos to you and your dad, 1:0 for the good guys.
That was an intense read, the media reports on crime levels being high in South Africa but reading about such a case from someone directly affected is a lot more scary.
Holy mackerel :salute:
Good to hear you're safe, that's pretty scary stuff. Good to know there are some people out there who don't believe the "Just do what they say," BS.
Sorry to hear about that, Barefoot. Things like that will happen in the world we live in, but at the very least you still have your health, your family and a good head on your shoulders.
That's terrible, I'm so sorry to hear that man.
Oh I'm so sorry, that's horrible! I'm so glad no one was seriously hurt. Amazing that your dad held his own against armed robbers too, I hope I'm that spry at 50, never mind 70!
BEAST.

I would have shat myself in that situation and run for the hills.
Monkeys are fearless. Barefoot_Monkey lived up to his name. I don't know why he didn't fling massive amounts of poo at the fleeing robbers though.

grimwerk: Bravely done, Barefoot.
^^This^^

~wow, and I thought the wild west police force here shooting unarmed homeless people was bad! Nice save, brave upsidedown monkey ;-) ~
Very scary story really :( but I'm glad you are ok and your family too!
Balls. Of. Steel.

Very glad to hear you and your family came out of that alright.
What are gun laws like in South Africa? I'd consider getting a conceal and carry permit after something like this.

Depends on the psychology of robbers in the area. If it's likely to scare them off it could be a good idea, while if it's likely to cause them to start shooting upon seeing the gun then it just increases the risks of injury or death. Also, if a robber already has a gun drawn then trying to out-draw them is a good way to get yourself shot- guns are most useful if you have time to prepare, and are often more a liability if you're taken by surprise.
