GameRager: The game in intensely hard, well unless you picm maybe the fighter types and go all armored up. I did a magician/rogue mix and needless to say I had to rely more on weapons at the start just to scrape by(for one, you don't get much magic at the start....and also your armor choices are limited as well at the beginning if you don't choose a fighter.).
RealWeaponX: You're better off with no armour at all in Demon's Souls. You can move faster, roll, and don't lose stamina as quickly. Freedom of movement is more important than the ability to take a hit. The only thing that should be getting hit is your shield, and that should only be hit strategically, i.e. if you intend to parry, or absorb then strike. Once you learn an enemy's attack pattern, that enemy is no longer a threat...
