Maybe, that's why I gave up playing Oblivion. I always liked playing the Breton as a Fighter. Was that race meant to be a spell caster?

Pick whatever one you like the look of and roleplay them. The Elder Scrolls are pretty forgiving with your character creation choices, so have fun with it.

Redguard with blades is great. Honestly though TES is designed where everyone can be anything, the racial bonuses just give you a slight edge up front when all you're doing is fighting rats anyway.

Reguard's adrenaline rush is great in all three modern games though.

I've actually been a big fan of Breton fighters in the TES games. They're a bit tougher to start out, but that's overcome easily enough once you start gaining skills and stats, and their innate magic resistance gives some much-needed protection against magic-using opponents (and makes it much easier to max out magic resistance with just a few items). I personally think the class the Bretons are best suited for is a spellsword, combining martial skills for offense with restoration, alteration, and mysticism for defense.

Your race doesn't matter except if you want an early advantage in certain classes. If you don't care for that extra advantage (more levels) then go the opposite way. Figure out what attributes belong to Block, Sword, Axe, Blunt, Repair, probably heavy armor, then throw your stats into everything outside of those. If you want early bonuses, then throw stats INTO the attributes modifying those abilities. If it comes down to several races, base it on the starting bonuses (Nords have resistance to Frost magics for example, most elves have bonuses towards magic, Kahjiit start with a couple of alteration spells, Argonion breath in water and have a couple others, so forth). After that don't worry and have fun.

Of course I have my oblivion game modded to have COBL/Cobl races/hairs/eyes/rebalanced, which adds a ability to the orc called green heart, which regenerates HP very slowly on your character.
