It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Yup - I need a good freeware download manager to download GOG's games when I don't want Firefox up sapping my resources.

DownThemAll. Simple addon to firefox. Really good download manager.
Not exactly a download manager, but the free webbrowser Opera works perfectly well with the site and has a basic download manager to boot. It doesn't use much of your RAM and CPU either. So if FF is too big maybe you could give Opera a go.
I've never had any issues with Firefox 3, even without download them all.
what I recommend doing, is making a sandwich.
Okey, I'll check out Orbit downloader.
The thing about DownThemAll is that it's an addon for FF, and my goal was eliminating FF's presence.
I used Opera before, it's great, but I switched to FF for the addonabillity.
Being able to continue downloads would be great aswell.

What's your problem with Sandwiches dude?!
Sandwiches are farking awesome! I farking love me a goshdarn Sandwich.
The other day after making love to my fine respectable lady, I said 'Hey baby, would you make me a sandwich?' and it was the finest darn Sandwich I ever ate. Don't you ever decline a free Sandwich or I will lose a great deal of respect for you and your inability to love such a fine invention as the Sandwich.

I agree with you, sandwiches are great. : D
I use Free Download Manager and it works brilliantly. You can make it cover firefox downloads (so when you hit a download link FDM will automatically offer to download it) or you can disable that and use firefox (for smaller files). I've been using it ages, and had no problems. My one recommendation is you get the lite version (unless you actually want all the bittorrent support etc) as it can take up quite a bit of room if you use the full version. Hope it helps.
But..... did you try these download managers to get games from GOG? I tried Opera and everything is fine if you dl file at once, but when i stopped and tried to resume....... ooopsss - starting with 0 MB :( I think this is the main issue GOG should work on for now. Theres no problem if files are small but 1GB< for someone with unstable internet connection could be pain in the ass.

It could be that the server does not allow resumable downloads. Some services are like that. I know I had to redownload a game the other night when I paused it halfway through because I had to do something else on the home network for a few minutes.

This is what I'm talking about. I don't think its download manager fault.

I believe it is because of their security's ip checking. I just lost over 300mb of Fallout 1, which took over 3 hours to download. :(
Been a member for three days and still unable to download anything... I know it's beta though, so my patience will extend a bit longer.
EDIT: Well, I just found a 317mb setup_fallout.exe.part file. If I rename it and take off the .part extension, I should be able to resume the download. Anyone willing to let me resume an FTP download?

FlashGet!
I'm using Opera and downloading Giants right now(60kb/s, it'll take around 3 hours). So if I stop the download, will I not be able to resume it later?
