dirtyharry50: Well, even though everybody seems to love Daikatana, I just can't get into it. I know, I just don't get it, etc. I was this way with Vietcong and Vietcong 2 also. I thought it was pretty clear they both sucked ass but again, I apparently was wrong.

I can live with being wrong sometimes. No biggie. :D

tinyE: Someone likes Dailatana? Even the people I've met who say they love it tell me it sucks.
I guess you missed the thread the day it released here.

Um, as tinyE pointed out, you must be mistaken here. Daikatana was one of the games that everybody absolutely hated when it came out.
By now many people have realized that it isn't as bad as the hype-backlash made it look. But I know no one who really loves it. It is just a mediocre game.

edit: OK. I probably missed that thread too.

hucklebarry: Steam. Lets forget about DRM. The "selling point" of steam seems to be social tools and trophies. I don't want either of those in my games. Auto patching is bad. always online is bad. Being seen when I want to "get away" is bad. Take Steam's feature list and go bullet by bullet... its pretty much the opposite of everything I'm looking for in a utility. I want the opposite of Steam. Give me a tool called Maets and have it remove adds, block my activity from leaving my PC, locking down games so they don't change unless I do it manually, restrict access to the internet... that is more up my ally.

Lifthrasil: ^This! Very much so. I really don't understand why Steam is so successful and I really hate how much this DRM platform dominates the market. Hell, even a lot of so-called 'Indies' are only available via a Steam account. That means they depend on the largest online platform - which is by definition the complete opposite of 'Independent'!
What's it's done is cheapen games, IMO. Recall when one of the GOG staff (I believe it was the EnigmaticT) said they felt that deep discount sales cheapens games. I personally believe it's DRM, not the sales. While I use Steam (even though I feel the same about the 'extras' as hucklebarry), I never buy anything that's tied to it unless it's on a deep discount. And that's solely due to the fact the game is tied to a DRM platform. Sure, the sale needs to be there, but the only reason I wait for a sale is because the game is tied to a DRM platform. That's what cheapens the games from my perspective. Granted, it may not be the same for others.

Oh shit, I went on an off topic rant. Apologies. More on topic: I missed the boat on Torchlight and Braid. Didn't like either game even though both were highly praised at the time of their releases.

anyone who wants a squad shooter where your team mates don't go out of their way to get their asses killed (unlike D) just get Republic Commando or Freedom Force.

I have no interest in FPS, and honestly don't want to. Why someone would want to spend their time pretending to shoot other people and being killed and respawning every 30 seconds is beyond me.

it was just a little joke because there were plenty of people defending the game in the release day thread, saying they were buying it, saying the criticism was overblown, etc., etc., etc. to which my reaction then was: only on GOG...

As the OP let me say feel free to go off topic. Shit, start talking about cheese if you want, I'm good. You forget 99% of all threads I post in I end up dragging off topic. :D

Ah, I see. Yes, most of us (me included but for other games) tend to wear the pink spectacles of nostalgia from time to time. :-)

hucklebarry: Turn based strategy... I hate it. absolutely hate it. The whole genre. Its the only game type I can't stand. I can play something from any genre or gametype out there... but not turn based.
I want to help you somehow. I want to enlighten you to the wonders of Turn Based Strategy. :(

Speaking of which I can't stand certain cheeses...

Not really, on a more serious note I've never got into Braid at all. I own it, and tried to play it, but just found it boring and disappointing. Not to worry, though, as I got it in a humble bundle and the other games in the bundle more than made up for it.

Cheese? I hope you are talking about green cheese, the food with the best nourishment to weight ratio of all food items. Even if Iolo (or was it Shamino?) isn't particularly fond of it.
Deus Ex, System Shock, Mass Effect, Company of Heroes, Call of Duty etc.. Basically most FPS, anything turn-based, zombie and/or horror games, sci-fi and post apocalyptic RPG's.

"You'd like headcheese. My brother makes it real good!"
Another vote for Super Meat Boy from me. If I am going to play a platformer I rather it be one where I can explore huge worlds instead of doing the same thing over and over until I get through one screen. I saw an article the other day saying demos are bad for game sales. In the case of this game that was true for me. After playing the demo I felt like I had enough and didn't get it until it came in HiB.

Half-Life 2 and Ep1/Ep2. I beat them and thought it was alright, but nothing even close to the hype it gets online. Half Life 1 was a better game to me. For FPS in the same time frame, I had way more fun with Fear + it's expansions and Stalker than I did with HL2.

Super Mario 64. The 2d Marios are far superior to this game. The camera is annoying, the level designs aren't that great, and unless you play it in an emulator the graphics look horrible today. The NES and SNES Mario games all aged far better.

Robette: Secret of Mana never worked for me, also Halo.
That's mostly because Halo wasn't very good. Perhaps it's because the person that showed it to me was so overly enthusiastic, but it was middling at best. Certainly not deserving of the level of worship that some folks devote to it.
