Anything and Everything point and click, with a guide should only take about 3 hours a game if that. All the freebies on GOG that are point and click will apply easily.
Wadjet Eye games (Gemini Rue, the 4 Blackwell games) are relatively short. If you're a point&click adventures veteran and stay glued to your seat you can beat two or three a day. With walkthroughs you can easily beat all of them in a day with time to spare.

Some of their non GOG games (Puzzle Bots, The Shiva, etc.) are even shorter. Basically any point&click adventure + walkthrough is a good choice.

La-Mulana, when you receive your reward from the Hell Temple. It would be a glorious way to demonstrate your superiority over your fellow men.

EDIT
As for a serious suggestion: The Sam & Max games and the first Deponia are pretty short. Alan Wake's American Nightmare is also much shorter when compared to its predecessor.

I suspect that episodic platformers would also be good if each individual episode counted as a completed game. Hocus Pocus and Duke Nukem 1 & 2 are episodic in nature, with about 11 episodes between them.

The Edna and Harvey Games are short - at least number 2 is - I don't have the first one.

If you've got Lume - it has to be the shortest game I ever paid for :-(

Samorost and The Dream Machine games are also incredibly short...

Hey, you know what ? Older RTS games - early and mid 90s were pretty short. I'm sure you could finish games like Warcraft: Orcs and Humans , Seven Years War and Dune 2 fast, and without many problems.
I suggest doing the morrowind speedrun thingy at least, thats about 10 minutes (not very fun though but...)

Colonization can be finnished in 4-5 hour of gameplay (if you're just doing 1 scorebased runthrough and know the game) and you can just play it on the side if you have a laptop.

Else i have nothing to add, i don't really play "short" games except for rts' and even the short rts' typicly will take 7-8 hours to finnish (and if your bad at them a lot more)
Just finished richard&alice and uploaded the first picture! The competition has already started!! XD
The Blackwell series is episodic, so the games are really short, especially the first two. To the Moon is also rather short so you can't go wrong there, as is Gemini Rue.
There are plenty of sandbox strategy games where you can win in under half an hour with the right settings.
Just put any Civ, Master of Orion, Master of Magic or any other 4X games on the smallest possible maps, least amount of opponents and easiest setting, and even a beginner should be able to achieve victory really fast by rushing the AI.

Other than that, speedruns are possible for many action games and RPGs, and traditional point&clikc adventure games can be finished really fast with a walkthrough.
As has been pointed out, RTS games are generally quicker than TBS. You might want to try LoL, and the other MOBA games, as their games end in about 3 hours (although you're obviously not guaranteed to win).

Unsure whether that would count, though, or if your friends would insist you had to 'win' the metagame (ie get to level 30) :)

Bastion can also be played in a long afternoon, especially if you ignore the side adventures. Bit of a shame to do that, though...

You want really short games? DLC Quest and Windowsill :D
Well, I'm on game number 10 now having taken it slow for awhile :)

Need to speed up again!

PaterAlf: Evoland, Unmechanical, Deponia and Freedom Fall (not on GOG) would be good choices.

Edit: Are only commercial games allowed? If not you should visit the AGS site. You will find tons of short adventure games there.
Any game so long as it can be finished (no Pro Evo or Sensible Soccer) so it's got to have a definitive ending although multiple endings based on player choices are fine but only one ending will count towards the total :)

Thanks for the tip - if I run low, I will go look (it's starting to get that way) :D

Another good game for this contest would be 7 Minutes.

You get one of the endings if you...

***BIG SPOILER***

...do nothing for seven minutes
