Problem is it isn't a free game, but I hit the buy now button as soon as the game appeared, didn't have to input any credit card info, said my order was successful and it appeared in my library. Any idea if this was a glitch? Really hope I don't get charged for this!

Don't worry, that is part of the promo!
You have been very lucky: any time you hit the "buy now" button, you have a small chance to win the game for free.
Edit: look under the Title in the home page, and you'll see "100 great titles up to 90% off, chance to get free games, limited stock, no sleep"
It's like... a luck skill check! ;)

Really? Cause last year they actually indicated they were free copies and were in very short supply, couldn't get a free game last year at all.

This time everyone has the same chance of finding one, there are no more split-second ultralimited freebies!
(Or, at least, the GoG staff says so. I'm inclined to belive them, though I have not been very lucky!)

Yeah, that's why they changed it and decided to do something different this year - the free game give aways were a bit broken the other way

I think the check works only the first time you click it, otherwise given enough time everyone could snatch everything for free.

P.S. sorry for the constant editing, I'm just a disaster with typos! :)

I've managed to get 2 games free exactly as you described, both times it was on the first click, never 2nd, 3rd etc, I don't think re-clicking will do anything.

Also, it was always for games that I didn't already have in my collection.

I think it's pre-determined if you'll get it free before you even click on it.

Got another game for free just now, this time the screen said I'm one click away from a free game, this screen didn't pop up when I got Bard's Tale, went straight to "order is complete."
