Through savings of birthday and Christmas money, I have managed to scrounge up enough for a new computer! It's not my dream computer (that's a solidly future-proof computer from Alienware or ibuypower that costs like, $3000, has 16 gigs of RAM, and a quad-core 3.3GHz processor), but it's leagues better than poor Collie here.

It's an Acer Aspire with an i5 2.4GHz processor, 4 gigs of RAM, a 640 GB harddrive, and a 2 gig AMD Radeon HD 6650M. I don't know too much about upgrading computers, but at least the RAM is upgradable.

With a laptop (the "6650M" gives it away as one), pretty much the only thing that is upgradeable is the RAM (and sometimes the disk drive).

About the only game that will give it a lot of trouble is The Witcher 2 (and that will give it a lot of trouble).

A shame, but one I'm prepared to live with.

(At least I'll be able to play the first one!)

So what's the first game? The one you couldn't play till now?

EDIT: It was Die by The Sword last time I did a major upgrade for reasons of not running enough power.

It would be Wolfenstein, but since I'd still need to buy that afterwards, I'll have to wait. Probably one of the F.E.A.R. games. The three I want to play but really couldn't, so I haven't bought them yet, are Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem Forever, and F.E.A.R.3.

irawesome: Do you have SimCity 2000 SE from GOG? It works like a blast on my Vista starter Pentium laptop downstairs(I have six computers.).
Uhm, no. I have it on disc. I haven't had any trouble with it on any computer so far, oddly enough.
Good for you - glad you have your PC - sounds nice

I myself just upgraded

I have an Intel Hexcore 3930K with 16GIG of Corsair Vengeance Ram and an Asus P9x79 Deluxe Motherboard in a Corsair 6000T graphite white case

Its all running sweet after a bit of fine tunning

Couldnt do the graphic card upgrade but it has 2x 560 GTX-TI cards in SLI mode which will do till the new 6 series come out shortly

Still setting her up. Made a System Repair Disc, now I'm clearing up the pre-installed stuff. Will report back when done.

Edit: Took a picture. Serenity's the new one in front. In the back is Colleen, poor girl. She's been through a lot, been worked hard, and has always tried her best. Rest now, Collie, you can rest now.

Quick question, it has switchable graphics, and since I only intend for Serenity to be unplugged for little bits at a time, I'd like her to mainly use the dedicated card. How do I go about that?

Edit: Or should I not bother messing with that? Will it automatically detect when it needs to use the dedicated card?

Grats! A new comp always feels good:)
Nice use of Neil Gaiman in the background. You have excellent taste! And congratulations on the new computer!

I say this whilst looking around feverishly, but I never finished that one. I have however read American Gods, so I guess it's a wash.
