It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

As the title said, I just got the preview update for the new dashboard that has the facebook, twitter, last fm & zune movie marketplace addons. Anyone got any questions about them that I can answer? It seems that the new features are part of a new channel called My Community that also houses those upcoming events that apparently don't really do anything but suggest you play a certain game on a certain day.
Preferrably not questions about Twitter because I don't use it so all I could do is critique the sign in page.
FACEBOOK
From the little i've used so far, facebook seems pretty good. In fact I prefer it to the proper one. it functions as a seperate application, much like running an arcade game so there's no worries about being signed in when you don't realise it. The interface, whilst a bit slow (presumably because it's downloading the information on access rather than on application load) is nice and clean, galleries are automatically separated into their own window.
The home channel seems to cycle through the latest entries in the first window (which can be expanded to show more entries, I have 25 entries but there's then an option to view older posts) whilst you're sitting there doing nothing, your status is displayed in the next window and your photos in the the third and final one.
There's seperate channels for photos, broken down into yours and friends, each opening galleries which can be browsed as if they were locally stored images (same interface and everything) and there's the option to view comments and captions for pictures where applicable.
The friends display gives you access to pretty much everything you'd get in the normal web facebook, profile, photos, status lists and there's an option for connecting to facebook friends who are on xbox live so presumably you can send friend requests to your ex girlfriends sisters brother who you only added because facebook suggested him and you didn't have the willpower to resist a command.
The profile channel gives you access to pretty much everything you'd need to use facebook, status updates, photos, profile info and basic settings but the latter seems to be only for online awareness on the 360.
No sign of facebook chat, perhaps it was even more dodgy and unreliable on the 360 than it is on the website or perhaps they thought there has to be a limit to controller based text entry.
ZUNE VIDEO MARKETPLACE
OH MY GOD! The Zune video marketplace has the Masters Of The Universe Movie!!! Roll on payday, I've not seen that train wreck of a film for decades!
Much like facebook (and probably twitter & lastFM), the zune video marketplace is a seperate application that launches as an exclusive process. There's either 102 or 103 films available for australians (I lost count right at the end but its over 100), For older movies, SD seems to have a standard price of 240 points and HD for 300 so its not TOO expensive. The new Friday The 13th costs more, 360 for SD and 420 for HD, not sure why but it gives a LITTLE bit of hope that the movies might come down in price as they age. They seem to be all rentals rather than purchases sadly but the 360 isn't the type of machine for storing a long term video library anyway. Sadly I only have 200 points at the moment so I can't download any movies at all, the previews seem to stream very nicely, fast and in good detail. The friday 13th preview is in lovely clear detail, starts almost instantly and stream speed shits all over youtube running perfectly without pauses (I'm on adsl2+ with a downstream rate of 14013 kbps). Its so good that you could almost feel the film grain in the preview of Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Kahn!
The library was clearly built by a star trek fan, They have every GOOD star trek movie, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 8, no 90 minute special effects show with 20 minutes of story from The Motion Picture, no Kirk beats up god in The Final Frontier and no Kirk steals way too much time from Picard in Generations.
No Star Wars, it seems to be mostly Paramount films so far, dunno if thats a preview limitation or if noone gets universal, warners etc
I can't seem to find last FM, I'm not sure if this feature is coming to australia and there's no mention of it being restricted. At least they had the decnency to say the "xbox live news and more" thing was exclusive to america so I didn't get my hopes up, at least it looks crap
Ahh I was afraid of that, this is from the MS Connect site that manages info on beta testing:
Welcome to the Last.fm Preview!
Note: Available in U.S. and U.K. only.
That just seems weird it we can use the service over the web normally and we get movies which are normally more problematic for clearance

How's the Last.fm stuff? Do you even use Last.fm?
So they've rebadged the Video Marketplace as the Zune Video Marketplace? In places where you can't buy a Zune? Insult to injury, if you ask me.
Why no Final Frontier? I want to see Shatner climb the mountain.
The Facebook UI is basically an extention of the NXE, yes? Slidey movements here and there?
Sadly as I said in the recent edit to post 2, I can't tell how last FM is, I'm guessing good since the rest is but we'll never know unless we move...

Yeah, for better or worse everything seems to retain the NXE feel with the same channels & windows layout
I figure I might as well give my fingers a rest and let my camera explain facebook for a bit. Not only is this easier on me but it's also easier for any identity thieves who want to steal my train wreck of a life. I should see if I can get new-for-old life insurance...
Hmm, a maximum of 5 attachments eh? Well stay tuned for the next installment, same bat time, same bat channel!
Ahh bugger it, I'll FTP them

how does your third party storage device work? is it all or just some that don't work?
I would imagine that the memory units should still work, I'm guessing they are just blocking people who hacked their hard drives. But I could see them screwing over people who have like the 4gb memory units from codejunkies.
Haven't got one.
From what I've read the general consensus (excluding the "OMGWTFBBQ!!!!" crowd) is that third party does not equal unauthorised and that datel memory units or re-imaged hard drives should work fine as long as they conform to the specs the MS ones use so the cheating hacked hard drives will fuck up but the cheap ones you buy on ebay PROBABLY won't. Same for the datel mem cards, as long as they're in the normal size they should work but the ones that are SD adapters are unlikely to work
no promises of course but that seems to be the non-alarmist point of view at the moment. Might be more info in the next day or 2 now that the preview is out
Judging by the photos of you on your Facebook profile, YOU'RE HOT.
Anyway, I like the Facebook integration, it's very seamless in conjunction with the NXE UI, but it seems like it's rather annoying to be scrolling around if you're wading through a ton of photos or something.
Seems neat, but to use the HD Zune Marketplace effectively you have to have a blinding-fast connection, whereas with Blu-Ray you just pop in the disc and "Poof!" Also, I like checking my Facebook on my PC. The 360 one is too oversimplified. It also isn't practical. If you're at home, chances are you'll just walk a bit to your computer and check Facebook from there.
Well the zune marketplace is not just streaming only, did I not mention that? You can download or stream if you have a connection thats around 10Mbit, thats the point I've heard the HD streaming connection tests fail, not sure how SD streaming would be but you should be good with anything above a 4-5 Mbit for SD I reckon. If you can't stream, you've always got the download option
Now if they'd add a web browser with support for modern web standards and flash we'd be all set, not that I have any need of the services included so far.

It's not streaming only? That's good. The only other thing is my hard drive is full of things I don't want to delete to make way for a movie, like a ton of Rock Band songs.
Yeah it can download but I'm not sure on the file sizes

I've never been quite sure why people are so into the browser on a console thing. The PS3 one is not that impressive and text entry with a controller gets to be a bit of a pain pretty quickly
I still can't find video file size info but I have found the licence info, rentals are available for 14 days or 24 hours after starting playback which is kinda lame, I was hoping for a licence for several days where you could watch it several times if you liked, this way it sounds like you'd get 2 days use out of it

I really just want to see how my sites looks and handles on such devices (10/20-foot experience, media type projection or tv...), and at least the xbox360 and ps2 & 3 can handle usb keyboards, dunno about the wii.
