DProject: Perhaps you just don't enjoy gaming subconsciously. Have you tried another hobby?
Because something is wrong, if you can't get into Arcanum, FTL, Portal 2 or the Fallout games.
Well, Deus Ex isn't on the list, so he's not doing it completely bad.

Still, that list covers about every genre, it's hard to give an advice without knowing why each of them put the OP off. I mean, Startopia is a great game if you ask me, if you can't get in it must be because you don't like the management genre, right? Or would somebody just write it off based on the round space station making them carsick?

Supereor: ...and I can't get into any of them.

Hello all, I have a bunch of games to play, and I try to play and enjoy them, but end up failing and looking for something more fun :( I have, and would like to enjoy, these games that I think are relatively good:
Morrowind
Oblivion
Skyrim
StarTopia
Divine Divinity
Beyond Divinity
Beyond Good and Evil
Dungeon Keeper Gold
Hostile Waters
System Shock 2
Arcanum
Fallout 3
Fallout: New Vegas
Alpha Centauri
Torchlight 1+2
Quake 1-3
All Unreals, except 2003
Doom 1+2
FTL: Faster Than Light
Super Meat Boy
Sins of a Solar Empire
SimCity 4
Thief 1+2
Portal 2
GalCiv 2
Freespace
Omikron
Wing Commander: Privateer(I think I know the answer: no joystick :P)

So, I really try to get into all of these games(Morrowind especially), but I can't and I really want to. Does anybody have any tips on how to enjoy these games? I don't want to waste my money :D
Initially, I was about to blame them rpgs for being huge timesinkers, but then I see games like Doom, Torchlight, Unreal Tournament, etc. Games that you can play in short doses and still enjoy.

So I got to ask: Is there currently any game that you are enjoying that doesn't belong to this list? If not, then you are probably suffering from videogame fatigue. Take a break and come back. You'll then appreciate them more. (or not, who knows) But, if you are enjoying a game that doesn't belong to this list, which game is it?

I may upset a few people here (sorry) but Morrowind is a miserable, tedious, characterless, charmless waste of time. Sell it, chuck it, forget about it and move on to something that is actually entertaining.

If RPG is really what you want then try something from the Bioware or Black Isle vintage 1998-2000, or if you must have something a bit more modern and 3D, then KOTOR or Jade Empire might be the best options.

I think sometimes if you play games in the same genre one after the other you may "game out", as avidly noted by HereForTheBeer and Rusty_Gunn.
For example, if the last game you beat was an epic RPG, try a shooter, a strategy game, a platformer or a racing game afterwards. That happens for me from time to time - you get saturated by similar-type gameplay.

Specific tips for some games that I'm familiar with:

Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout3: try not to stray too far away from the main storyline. Sometimes you may find yourself bogged down by "bring-this, kill-those-guys" type of side quests which may sink up lots of time, and also make you too powerful so that main quest bits feel a bit easy after that.

Fallout: New Vegas: The opposite: do try to get into the side quests - some are good fun! Also, don't neglect companions - their personal quests are great too.

Doom 1+2/Unreal Tournament/Quake 1-3: Weekend+ a LAN game with friends+ lots of beer=now you're getting into it :)

Super Meat Boy: hell, I can't get into it too! The time has not yet come, I guess.
Finally, take a break from gaming. When you come back, you'll be hungry for whatever :)

I got into FTL and Fallout 1+2 once I started narrating it a bit in my head and sometimes accepted bad outcomes in Fallout. Stuff like "God, we are lost, we lost 2 men on that last encounter and our rockets are running low, if only XYZ was still here" or "I lost dogmeat... he was a good dog but that's how the wasteland is, mercyless"

On the other hand, I got morrowind and the likes to, and never played it. I also didn't finish arcanum. I might lose the patience for such long roleplaying games. With Torchlight it is different I guess, you either get hooked on the hunt for loot or you don't, I don't think there is much else to it.

Generally I find it discuraging to have such a huge backlog, since it makes me think of games in a very functional way, trying to get through it for the sake of the backlog.

I also didn't get into System Shock 2, Omikron and Freespace btw. and probaply just won't.

Keep one RPG at a time and take breaks from gaming and when I say breaks not a few minutes or an hour but a few days.

Also learn your personal priority. For me this works:
1) mood
2) energy/motivation
3) time
4) consistency

I added the last one as I hate it when I find great games but I lack addiction to play them a lot so when I come back it takes time to jump back in and get immersed in the world.
For FTL:
To get into this one is quite simple:
You just have to get a fixed starting time (e.g. Saturday, 20 o´clock) and play till you get crushed.
Then STOP playing it till next week...

Oh, and in general: I know your problem quite well, so it would be nice if somebody around here could show me any trick how to come into Baldurs Gate Series!
I really sucked away Planescape and I´ve played many other RPGs, but I cannot get into BG!
Maybe it´s something about installation prozess, maybe it´s something about speech packages...

This happened for me too. It took so long to tweak and make sure the game worked I didn't really find myself interested in playing so I archieved the folder and played something else. Some time later I returned to play and it worked. Unfortunately I stumbled upon a consistent crash issue and gave up, hoping I'll have better luck with the EEs in a couple of years.
It seems like you are not so into open-world RPG, as you have trouble with almost all the Bethesda games. If you find the open-ending nature and the large world of these games overwhelming and are not so into exploration, I'll suggest you to stick with a town (starting one) and focus on all the mission there first. Do one quest at a time and only go into the wilderness if quest requires, then slowly get used to the wilderness and dungeon crawling, and start trying to enjoy the exploration part. Exploration is a huge part in these games, so if you really can't get into that, I think you should consider switching to more story focused rpg, and there are a lot of decent ones, old and new.
Thanks for all the responses, I appreciate it as always, but there's something I need to say here.
This is NOT my entire games list. It's just the ones I can't get into.

I will say my entire games list, and how much I've played them.

Always masturbate before you sit down to play a game - it leaves you relaxed and calm and you will enjoy your RPG after that.

Dzsono: Maybe Morrowind could do with a nice graphical update to help draw you in?
WARNING: The Overhaul has a quest breaking bug in the Tribunal Expansion's main quest a quest item is missing from a chest and never appears thus making the The Tribunal Expansion main quest unbeatable unless you use Console commands.

The main quest of the vanilla game is alright with the Overhaul, I beat the game myself.

Don't know anything about Bloodmoon or Vvardenfell's other faction quest that are not Imperial Legion or Fighters Guild.
I see you haven't tried SPAZ and Sacred 2. Do that now. The first is a decent action strategy game and the second is an action RPG so both should be easy to dive into (the former has a tutorial). Avoid Sacred 2 though if you've an older computer.
FTL is pretty good game once you learn it.

FTL has a few game mechanics that you need to learn.
When you learn the game mechanics and how everything work, you are gonna have a good time with FTL.

Game is pretty much effected with RNG so you will have lots of failures.
My first victory in FTL was about 20h into the game.
