OK since we have 2 computers in the house now I like to ask this. Obviously I have purchased my own games on Steam long before, but they are tied to my Brother's account so I simply just have to sign in on Steam using my brother's account, but the thing is my Brother constantly plays DOTA 2 with his friends and I mean nearly every day.

So my question is can steam allow 2 people using 2 computers playing games on the same account?
Log with your bro's account on your PC, and then log into your account and add him as family, and then you'll see his library as well every time you log onto your account. He'll need to okay it every time you play one of his games (I might be misremembering this part).

I think that's the quickest way to do it, but maybe someone else can suggest something better.

edit: actually, Family Share won't let you play his games while he is using his account for online stuff, so offline option is your best solution.

Did they change the policy recently? As of last month, I can share my games with family members on 2 different computers, but they could not play any if I was already playing a game on my account. I will try to test this later, but this is what we've been waiting for since the beta started!
Change the password to your brothers account. Keep it for yourself! ;)
Two possibilities:

#1 You log on your comp into your brothers account and go to "offline mode" but then you can't play multiplayer games via steam

#2 Family Share as mentioned: Your brother uses his account on his comp, you use yours on your comp and use family share. You can play most games your brother doesn't play at the same moment. When he starts the game you are actually playing you will get disconnected though.

Its ok their are games that solely belong to me like Dragon Age: Origins and FEAR.

So how do I add him to family, he is already on my friend list as elmofongo
if i were you the 1st thing i check does the game you want to play require steam at all.
You can take a look here for infos about family share: http://store.steampowered.com/sharing/?l=english

Are you sure about this? It didn't use to work like that. The account's treated like a console. If it's in use, someone else can't use it at the same time. (pretty sure the whole thing was just designed to be used with Steam Machines).

I was talking of two accounts, his games are tied to his brothers account, so i thought he has another account, too.

Here's a guide

But if he's using his account, you will not be able to play at the same time as he's using his account. Like was mentioned, offline play is the best option.

edit: do it the way I said above and you won't need to log on from his PC or whatever.

Off-topic and I am sorry for bringing this dead horse up, but I just lost 2 points of rep, and for what just asking a legitimate question. Not accussing you or anyone who posted here. Are there people here who just don't like me for some reason? I am not TinyE and this happens everytime I make a new thread :(

You know why it is. It's Steam related. That's going to get you downreps here.

Well, that was a silly way to go about it. Why on Earth did you not make your own account? You have effectively bought those games for your brother, not for yourself. You do know that you can log into different Steam accounts on one computer, right?

Not at the same time

(unless one of you is offline...)
