And here is why I won't buy a new PC game anymore (except for the upcoming DeathSpank; maybe...) until the mighty pirates'll fix it with a crack....
It probably tests Uplay's by pinging the server--or something similar--and if it gets a slow or null response decides you don't have a good enough internet connection.

Good luck waiting for a crack for this; from what I've read the Assassin's Creed II crack still isn't perfect (some side quests etc. don't work), and they will have to mostly start over from scratch for other games using this DRM.
Rather than simply sending a traditional save file cut into chunks it seemingly transmits individual pairs of values back and forth continually during play. The AC2 crack database documents thousands of these--and growing--and the vast majority will be specific to AC2 and won't help with cracking other Ubi DRM games.
This is one of the most complex DRM systems ever devised; rather than having a few carefully placed "hooks" to find and patch out, every feature of a game is tied into the server saving system and has to get the correct response back before the appropriate effect will occur in the game (like the first game, AC2 saves after every action, even just collecting a collectible item or whatnot). If Conviction only has checkpoint-based saving that might make it a bit easier, but there will still be a ton of pairs to catch.

Urb4nZ0mb13: Forgot about these.

The second one is epic bro.

Urb4nZ0mb13: Forgot about these.

The first one is made up, no result on Google, you merely deleted the dll: http://www.google.com/search?q=cannot+find+systemdetection.dll
Wasn't the truth ugly enough already?

Oh crap, I forgot that that was one of the dozens of solutions I was trying to get the game to run.
Sorry for the confusion bro.
So I finally got the game to run about an hour ago.
Damn thing just locks up every few minutes for a good 30-60 seconds for NO apparent reason. I'm guessing it has to do with those DRM transmissions.

So you're saying that a Skidrow release won't work as expected? That would be surprising, speaking for myself...

Navagon: People still buy Ubisoft games?

Why not? Anything to know those pesky pirates can't play the game that developers toiled over for years!
Oh wait.

That release seems to have been "nuked", but the reason was because the crack was "stolen" from another group. As for actual playability I don't really know, I've only been following it on and off to see how long it takes, but last I read there's still some secondary missions and such that don't work correctly--although that was regarding the original release they built theirs from, not their own.
For those just wanting to blast through the main missions and be done with it the current crack thing is probably sufficient, but for those wanting the full experience--whether they be actual pirates or just unfortunate customers like Urb4nZ0mb13--this isn't good enough.
Regardless, this sad tale is reason enough to stay clear of Ubi DRM titles for the foreseeable future, even if full cracks arise. It's one thing to resort to a crack to remove the extra step of putting a disc in the drive, but why reward Ubisoft by paying full price for a game that may not work at all? Not only are they charging full price for their glorified rentals but they have had the gall to tack an extra $10 on top like Activision did with Modern Warfare 2.

Ubisoft have successfully alienated me completely from their customer base. I won't purchase another Ubisoft game again - not even if one shows up on GOG. Not at least, until they stop this charade and completely remove the assRM from all their titles.

stonebro: Ubisoft have successfully alienated me completely from their customer base. I won't purchase another Ubisoft game again - not even if one shows up on GOG.

The only game I dare to buy would be Prince of Persia Warrior Within, on GoG only. With BG&E and PoP:SoT it's the only classic of Ubi I feel worth to get.
Ubisoft will sooner or later remove the DRM. Asscreed 2 has been cracked, the games are unplayable, I'll go next week to the office of fair trade to clear the issues out and the customers gave them a financial blow already and if they go on like this, they'll be totally ruined.
Ubisoft ? Didn't they make games or something ??
As long as my wireless internet remains untrustworthy (and that will be a long time) i will not buy a ubisoft game ever again. Sad yes but the truth is they were going downhill anyway so not a big loss for me...

Stuff: Ubisoft ? Didn't they make games or something ??

Yeah. Didn't they make that Rainbow 6 game? The one about the six unicorns? Not my cup of tea, to be honest, but it still counts as a game I suppose.
This thread is just begging for that song I wrote....on that Heroes of GOG forum...
