Iain: Origin was down this morning (UK Time), you could kind of log in and play your games but couldn't go online with it. When it came back up the checkout on the store side of things was down for another few hours.

Best way to check as they don't have a service update is check the Battlefield 3 status. If their servers are down for PC then Origin in most cases will also be down.

However, after you run a game for the first time you can start stuff offline, you can even just double click the startup exe file in the install directory to launch a game and it doesn't start the Origin service.

Battlefield 3 status for future reference :

That's good to know. Thank you.

Welcome, I was wondering what was going on at around 9am this morning and thats what I found when I did a bit of digging about.

dirtyharry50: Origin did not make a good first impression here.
You had luck. First time I installed Origin suddenly my PC started to burn. I still have pictures, which show my grilled hardware. That was not a good impression. ;)

Hmm, my condolences. I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

One time I had a similar experience with the game Lord of the Rings Online. It melted my Nvidia video card. I had to go out and buy a new one that would not overheat when that game ran.

Sorry I accidently clicked on minus rating. Damn you touchscreen.

It was curious because I only installed Battlefield 3. While I was installing my PC catched fire. :/

Geeze! Maybe my Mac with its amazing heat dispersion can handle the installer. I might try it. I did buy Applecare for in case this computer melts, blows up, implodes, etc.
Yeah. While I'm not part of the "zz0000mmmgg EA suxxorZZzzZZ St34m 4 lyf!!111!!!" brigade & never want to be, I certainly agree it has a shit-ton of problems.
I haven't encountered huge, deal-breaking problems with Origin, but I've encountered many inconveniences. I think Origin is a "try it yourself" kind of deal. Just install it, play around with it & see what you think.
Meh, i have 8 games on Origin and use it for several months, never had a problem.. Just purchased Game of Thrones and Crysis 2 for 5€ each, current promo by the way and it's almost done downloading that Crysis 2 12.8 GB freak to play it in a few minutes, actually. I'll report here if it goes wrong, promise! :)
