RayRay13000: I don't watch sports (unless it's a family gathering or a couple of friends are around).

ChrisSD: A family gathering watching sports is what I imagine hell must be like, only hell has better central heating.
Actually family gatherings are when I like to play one of my favorite games, Russian Roulette.
And what about champions League?
While the best players are still over the sea playing for the Stanley Cup, the World Championship games are still a big deal for a lot of folk back here in the old country. Especially to us Finns. So while you're technically correct saying "how come these are the world championship games, when the best players aren't even around", have some respect. These ARE the Stanley Cup games to us. NHL is just a capitalist league. This is the battle of the nations.
In case any of you missed it, here is a still shot from the Championship Game. As you can tell from the picture Finland (in their home light blue?) spend most of the game in the Canada (wearing their road green?) zone and it really wasn't much of a contest. As of right now no one is quite sure why both sides only played with 4 skaters each but it's being looked into.

On a side note, but of equal interest, it has yet to be determined why all of the spectators decided to dress up as Ringo Starr wearing a red turtleneck.

I think the biggest issue they're investigating though, is why the still shot needed to be in .gif format.

well said.

To me its all about beating swedes and ruskies - the matches i might actually end up watching.

aand if either happens to be finals, i sure dont mind ;)

Anyways, its fun; just few days ago and i was listening to radio how someone complained how bad the finnish icehockey team is this year and how he doesnt want to watch the matches because Finland is going to lose anyways.

"The finnish pessimist is never disapointed!"

There goes my hope of him ever shooting and scoring.
At least you saved me few hours of waiting for it. :-)

Nothing says holiday fun like winner take all, three fruitcake buy-in Russian Roulette. I mean, sure, I had to pay to get the floor steam cleaned after.....and the walls....and the ceiling....but it only took a couple years of some serious inter-relative level play before I didn't have to spend time telling people to fuck off anymore.

Also, still have the fruitcakes. They're like little victory trophies.
In all seriousness, I'm curious: are there so many other types of hockey that "ice" has to be used? I mean, ok, field hockey or whatever it's called, but when one hears "hockey", is there a plethora of other things it could be?

That reminds me of when my high school try to put up a water polo team. It was a disaster. By the end of the 1st game all of our horses had drowned.

Air hockey, Inline hockey, Sledge hockey, Street hockey, Ball hockey, Deck hockey, Floor hockey, .... :p
I have learned that we have a decent hockey team.

There are other sports than football and rugby... wow!
Ice hockey finals and GOG BloodBowl finals on the same day.

yess. should have bought more beer though..
