I have a question? If someone buy a forbidden game for you and then give you the gift code, that doesn't work?

Cormoran: As stupid as the ratings are it just isn't that big an issue for me. Certainly not one big enough to make me want to move to another country.
Same here.

At least our age ratings/censorship & copyright laws are less restrictive then some other countries I could name.

Yeah I've had friends buy me games to get around region blocking and censorship.

If that's the case, you can probably connect to a US proxy, and then buy games for your self as if you were in US

That works for purchasing from websites but not for connecting directly to Steam(at least to my limited knowledge) :)
Australia's rating problems also have unintentional side-effects here in New Zealand. Some games blocked in Australia are unavailable here (including digitally) despite New Zealand's own rating board giving a valid rating for those games.

Steam can be accessed through a proxy/VPN but this is forbidden by the Subscriber Agreement, so they could theoretically block that game and/or the whole account if they realise it has happened.

There might be a R18+ rating, but it certainly wont work if board is still filled with old fogies or people who aren't with touch of the people of today and what is classed as entertainment.

sauvignon1: You'd think the descendants of ex-cons living in the Land of God's Failed Experiments wouldn't be such prudes when it came to violence in video games.
The prudes on the board are probably those who came with the first fleet back in 1788 LOL.

"In the Board’s opinion,Saints Row IV,
includes interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context.
In addition, the game includes elements of illicit or proscribed drug use related to incentives or rewards."

We may have the R18+ rating now (just a re-badge M rating), but laws related to the above in games has not changed in Australia,
It gets an automatic Refused Classification.

Classification research - call for volunteers for research - hopefully the research has successful applicants that will be able to demonstrate that their opinions on classification are likely to be representative of a broader pool of people. The form also asks potential participants how they think they would react to viewing extreme content. It sounds, speculatively, like the Board is conducting an assessment of community values with regard to permissible content.

I don't see anything changing soon though.

kaka123: snip
Come to free Germany.
Games are no not censored here, no, the publishers either not release them in Germany or
cut offending content by themselfs. And thats since the glorious days of the VCS 2600.
And we even *do not censor* foreign versions. Just ask the happy shops in Austria.

kaka123: Anyone else who is outraged by the ACB leave a comment

Sucks to be an Aussie gamer

What's the point of having a goddam R18 rating and then have games like state of decay, saints row iv etc banned or heavily censored !! absolute fucking trash!! fuck the ACB fuck them and their pussy whipped friends !!
I'm next door to you in Zealand. I would say come over here because as long as you have online access there isn't a whole lot that you can't get here.

BUT you have to be ready to retire first - There's absolutely no work here, all the chics between 18 and 30 are moving to Aussie and the retail shops are comically bad featuring very limited and laughably overpriced inventory.

Also avoid the USA - Government support there entails putting you out of your misery by lighting you on fire one night while sleeping besides a Burger King dumpster.
Nobody is welcome to any country unless you have skills and experience a country can't get from their own citizens and a decent amount of money saved up. So you unless you have the right connections, you have to be a godlike impressive son of a bitch to be able to just move somewhere. FUCK BORDERS. There are exceptions, like teaching English in a different country...

PS
before deciding to be a cunt and reply to this post with a "I can easily move here blah blah", know that I'm not talking about moving from one EU country to another. Anyone can do that.

Starmaker: Right, what with all the police brutality, unlawful incarceration, homophobia, rampant embezzlement, racism, unemployment, paid primary education, religious persecution, collapse of social security...

Oh wait

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You must be talking about MERICA. Yeah, you would have to a dumb ass to move here now.

I hate a lot of stuff my government does. In the end you just have to put up with the small stuff and stand up when it gets serious.

Yes because all cons are sociopath murderers and rapists...NOT.
avatar
ne_zavarj: Avoid Germany .
avatar
langurmonkey: Wise words.
Come on, I know there's game censorship here, but it's not THAT bad - or is it? :D

I mean, you can at least buy your games from GOG or get them from the UK.

timppu: As far as gaming goes, I've always felt Australia is like Germany, only with more sand.
Yes. Seems to be the case. But I think you can watch youtube in Australia, right?

Well, you know what they say: "Give a man fire and he'll be warm for a day. But light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life!"
