Anyone ever come across games, either digital downloads or boxed, that you have no recollection of buying?

Cleaning out some stacks of CDs and DVDs this week I came across The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and its expansion packs. I have NO recollection of buying it, but obviously I did. It's still in its wrapper too, so at least I can't say I've played it and forgotten.

Never played it. Now I can. Totally excited as I wanted to play this before I bought Skyrim.

Anyone else?
I was really in a mood to play a horror game, and since I have never finished Amnesia before, I felt kind of sorry I didn't have money to get it. And then I logged to my indie bundle account to download Cortex Command and THERE IT WAS! It was glorious. By the way, I have wrote up a fairly comprehensive Oblivion modding guide and should still have it ... Somewhere. So if you happened to get sick of the vanilla (which you don't necessarily will,) I'm able to help.

Yes, frequently. Especially since the beginning of the whole indie bundle craze, but also occasionally with boxed games. My backlog is immense :-/
I more or less have an impression of what games I own, but I own multiple copies of certain games which I surprise myself when I find by accident. I've got two copies of Wages of War, X-COM, King's Quest VI and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
Yep, I've bought second copies of both Grandia 2 and Arcanum cause I had forgotten I already owned them. I was also surprised to find out I'm in possession of a copy of Aquanox. Might have gotten that one together with a new graphics card or something.
I found a couple in my Steam inventory I had no recollection of buying when I checked for DRM free games there, I think they must have come from some bundles. A couple of them I still have not even tried just to see if they work on my system...

Oh, you have just reminded me that I have a copy of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood from my graphics card
Glad I'm not the only one then :)

I'm usually pretty good at remembering if I own a game or not (movie DVDs are another story, as I have almost 3,000 of them now so often re-buy movies I already have), but I cannot remember buying Oblivion for the life of me!!!

I'm guessing I bought it along with a few other games at the same time, and probably shoved it to one side to "play when I've finished the others" as it's such a long game.

Then again, I bought LA Noire a few weeks ago too, and completely forgot about that until I was cleaning my bookshelves and saw it sitting on top of LEGO Harry Potter. Getting to playing it, however, is another story :)

I'll definitely take you up on that when I get round to starting it. May be a few weeks, though, as I've about 50 hours of Divine Divinity still to play and then LEGO Harry Potter, Years 4-7 is next on my list.

Sometime that happens to me with indie bundles, especially when I bought the bundle for a particular game and didn't pay attention to what else it was bundled with. Generally though, I can remember which games I've bought.
Kingdoms of Alamur showed up at my door one day and I couldn't remember buying it at all. I came to the conclusion that I must have preordered it and forgotten, and it was a really late delivery.
I'm with maycett. Indie bundles really made the situation bad for me. Even before there was always a chance I forget a game, but now I really have no idea what games I own. Actually, digital made the situation bad even before indie bundles. Just having games on 5-10 services can play havoc with my recollection.

Still, it's better than the movie Pulp Fiction. When I came to buy it for the third time I actually though to myself that it may be a good idea to check if I have it. So at least I only bought two copies. Which is probably why I still manage to catch myself when I want to buy something. I think "Syberia, that's a game I want, which probably means I have it."
happened to me this week email from UBIsoft telling me my preorder of Assassins creed 3 was upgraded... I didn't even remember ordering it in the first place..

The aforementioned blunders caused me to create a simple excel file that lists all the games I own and where I got them from.

I'm actually mid-way through doing that with my movies. Then I can print it out and take it with me the next time I go to the DVD store. I've bought 3 movies in the last month I discovered I already owned when I got them home :)

Heh, have one for movies too. Don't actually own all that many, but better save than sorry, I guess.
