Great, so you are a peoples person, go have fun then, go play with your "friends" and expect them to backstab you the moment you need them most.

I'm happy being a single player.
I'm just thought to try to be nice and polite and all, not just like some other fellows here...

Khadgar42: Great, exactly!
Me too, so how about it, then?

Austrobogulator: You can't make me :(
No, of course not - why should I anyway?
You don't want to play multiplayer with me? Farewell then... Have fun with your single player experience...

It's simply a preference. At times you may want to be social, at others you may want to play a game that has a good story by yourself -- I certainly wouldn't want 5 other people with me when I'm reading a book, why should it be different for certain games. Not *everything* has to be social you know! :-)

El_Caz: Steam has Lara Croft and the guardian of light for $3.39 during their sale It's co-op with one other friend, you pretty much help each other with your abilities to get places, it's kinda violent and it has a demo, so you can try before you buy.

Congratulations, Oh I just uprepped you for that comment...
I don't like them either.

What I suggest is to either largely solo some MMOs, interacting with people only when you want to, or play some Battlefield, which is the most singleplayer-like online shooter in my experience.
It's not that I don't like the MP component cause it can be a lot of fun, the problem is other people can usually destroy the whole experience. The reality is most of the randoms you meet are complete assholes flaming left and right even thought they are usually not that good themselves (try any MOBA game). I really don't get it and don't think young age is a factor at least it never was in my case as I always found flaming someone over the internet rather silly but yeah, there are just plenty of those "internet tough guys" who can't manage their emotions at all and prefer being a dick over making the game a pleasant experience for everyone.

So basically MP is good as long as you play either with friends or some moderated server with rules etc.

blakstar: I didn't mind multiplayer at one point, but it seems as if it's got to the point where games just have to include social and multiplayer aspects at the cost of single player -- for example, Mass Effect 3. It started as a single player game, continued into 2 as a single player game, and then shoehorned multiplayer into 3.

Granted, some players may like that, but I would have preferred that they finished it as they started, and used resources to properly test and finish the story in a way that wouldn't have caused so much backlash.

I know that's an old example now, but developers have to realise that some people still want a single player experience from time to time, especially in a story that they may have invested a fair amount of time in.

Oh... Just thought of another example, why oh why, couldn't they just have given us a proper Knights of the Old Republic 3, instead of the mess that eventually emerged?

Sorry if this is a little long, I didn't mean to turn this into some kind of diatribe, but my thought processes kind of ran away from me. :-)
Because some kid back in G4's X-Play ask Adam and Morgan saying "Will there be a KOTOR MMO?"

I bet Bioware made that MMORPG just for that kid I saw in X-Play years ago :P

How does that make any sense?

I tried MP awhile back. It didn't take long to stop. The last time I ended up all alone on a UT2004 map waiting for other players to jump in. One guy showed up then started cussing at me like crazy so I would stop ignoring him(his words) It was delightful, and largely characteristic of playing online where anything good is far out weighed by the bad stuff.

I'm so private I don't get the whole wanting to mingle with strangers, and with friends you have to carve out time to play which sounds like an odd thing to make time for. Personally I should be doing other things, and I don't see setting up online play dates as being very realistic. It's a shame when we have to give applause to a game that actually has a SP experience anymore.

I will say I'm rather opposite in my thinking on what I would play though. I would much rather do a VS game than team up. That way nobody is counting on me to be good at anything. Every one of those squad MP games out there selling millions sounds like a horrible way to spend time to me.
If I want to play Han Solo I use the unlockable costumes for Mercenaries. Great game by the way, why isn't it here on GOG?

It's nice to see a debate initializing here but I rather would have people - especiall those who hate multiplayer like me, or even worse - to play something together with me.

So true... So I think if Khadgar42 finds the right people to play with, he will start to like multiplayer games.

It would be easier if you posted some games you would want to play or at least a preferred genre cause at the moment your request is just too vague.
I don't care which games to play,

as I said I don't like shooters that much - but I don't want to scare off potential players by limiting their options.

Okay, okay, If you want games, let me have a look at my library.

Ah yes, Skyrim - nope that's single player.
Here we go:
Star Wars the Old Republic free to play
Empire Total War (although it feels quite slow)
Battle of Wesnoth (Free and for the turn-based fetishists)
I do not know if you would call it multiplayer in todays meaning, there was a game called VGA Planets which I played together with 7 other people for about 3 years with some pauses in between . Every Tuesday at 19:00 (on some occasions the turn was delayed, or some players did sent it by e-mail, or the day was changed) we would meet up at the house of a friend and turn in our game turns on a floppy disk, so that he can host a turn. Often friends came with friends or girlfriends so that on some occasion there were about 15-20 people there. These "turn--meetings" became often a sit in, ranging from talking about tactics, things that happened, forging alliances to talking about almost anything or pulling out several board games or meeting in a pub/bar after hosting. I enjoyed that time.

Multiplayer in todays sense, I don't know, I played some MMORPGS but I can't say I am a big fan of it as it evolves more and more to a single player game where you can see other people and it changes from a game centric view to a more individual view of prestige, concentrating more on the social aspect than the game itself, which seems more profitable.
