You are very diligent. If I got downrepped, I don't think I'd notice until I'd drop below 300.

Then, I'd go "I could have sworn I was above 300...".

Maybe I should write my rep down somewhere... na, too much work.

Not really hating steam is usually the reason to get downrep'd.

Did you not hate steam in the last 24 hours?

I could swear that yesterday you had 435 rep at least...
Personally I think there should be some sort of notification system when it comes to up- or down-repping...

"You have been down-repped by "X" on (this post)"

Maybe that would help curtail down-repping just because someone's in a bad mood or being a jerk.

Of course, I know that in practice this would be ridiculous and open up a can of worms, but really, with no "accountability" for clicking, to me the whole thing is kind of pointless. You can get down-repped simply because someone doesn't like what you say.

I could say "I like blueberry pancakes" and someone can down-rep me because they don't agree.

There's really just no good way to implement a system like this.

Or, as I've suggested before, just have an option for up-rep and forgo the down-rep. If you're an "ok" person, your rep should rise over time. If it doesn't, that should be all the notification you need that your approach could probably use some work. I don't get the need to "punish" people by decreasing their score.
Why do you have a german name when you are from the US of A and why should I care about this rep thingy? I couldn´t care less about it.

Who, me? Because I happen to like the German language.

"Coming or going, you should deny people their fervent wishes, because they are stupid and contradictory." Or something like that.

Downrepping serves a purpose. When someone doesn't like what you say for whatever reason - especially for a stupid reason! - they are free to click the minus button instead of starting a flame war. And that's a FEATURE. It cuts down on stupid. Similarly, uprepping cuts down on "I agree! +1". Rep needs to be noticeable enough that people feel they achieve something by clicking those buttons, and it absolutely does not need to provide a personal and/or identifying notification. The whole idea is to make people who rage to effectively vent that crap and calm down, and people who are the target of the rage to notice as little as possible.

This forum is full of random people, and, to mangle the English language completely, it needs to be more full of more random people. Because it's a commercial forum supplemental to selling product. Some people will go to it in a bad mood. Some people will be jerks. Some people will be so stupid as to not like blueberry pancakes. You can't, and shouldn't, magically get rid of them. However - from a countably infinite selection of ways to implement a forum interface, there are some that have a noticeable positive effect - those are definitionally "good"; and one that has the most positive impact - that one is definitionally "the best".

The fact that you recognize notification is super bad and can't be bothered to think it through and not suggest it in the first place is omgwtfbbqcringeworthy. I honor your desire for notification this one time. Downrepped.

Starmaker: *snip*
I agree. *presses a plus*

Anyway..

I myself have been wavering in area of 210-230.
Wouldn't really make me a better person if I had over 300.

Seems that some people are so much wiser than others in here that they think that every post should be some life altering post. There's always room for some crap and retarded (yes I said it, remember reading about it a while ago) posts. =)
Well, that's how I feel.

Edit: I mean some regular giveaway face get plus reps no matter what they write and if you are "nobody" and write the same stuff, you will get downrepped.

As far as up-rep goes, there are plenty of posts that say "+1 for you" and add nothing more, so I don't see how it cuts down on that.

And though we don't really have "flame wars" here, there are certainly enough posts that tend to get awfully close - rather than respond civilly, there is a "holier than thou" attitude. I'll let you think that one through on your own.

And the reason I didn't "think it through" is that I know it will never be changed; same as the posts that say "I'd like to see this or that" on the forum and don't bother to go into details. Many of us are not web designers or savvy enough to know the technical end of things.

And I wasn't advocating "getting rid" of anyone; don't know where you got that from.

But hey, thanks for apparently taking offense at my personal expression.
I find rep to be pointless as both decent and good and annoying and ignorant people can have both high and low rep, it's all about the person. Had to deal with alot of crap because of it (still do) and to base anything on that other then moments of trading as a gauge is disgusting.
Not really a fan of blueberry pancakes. Maybe I should get out more. -__-
