Since I've moved to college, I've occasionally had trouble sleeping. Some nights I have just stared at the ceiling until 1:30 AM, when I promptly fall asleep. It hasn't happened often, but this current bout is especially troubling.
It's 4:00 in the morning, and I'm still awake. Wide awake, in fact. I tried turning my fan on, turning it off, adding covers, removing covers, reading a book, playing some Madden, listening to podcasts, and nothing has made me the least bit tired tonight. I'm really worried this will make me crash hard in classes tomorrow (fortunately my exam was today, not tomorrow).
Got any suggestions on how to get a good night's sleep when you're restless?

Tantrix: I drink only bio milk 83

Virama: ANY milk is bad for you, you do realise that? We are the only animals that keep drinking milk - and OTHER species's milk to boot - after we are weaned.

Bad for morally bad or biologically bad?
Do you get this information from those esoteric hippies, or do you actually asked someone with a doctor of medicine?
Rule #83: Don't listen to everything Tyler Durden tells you in Fight Club. Don't drink your urine. Don't make bombs out of soap. Don't refuse to put the mask on when the plane's going down. And drink your freakin' milk. It's healthy.

Did you even bother to read that site? If you had, I doubt you would be saying that. He actually points out actual facts.
Cheese33, lol. Love that movie.
What normally works for me, is 50mg to 150mg of benadryil, or however it is spelled. About an hour before i wanna get a few zzz'z.
I'm not sure amnesia will be a problem for you sleeping, unless that's causing you anxiety because you've forgotten where you are, or who turned out the lights ;).
I've sufferred from insomnia since birth (glue ear as a child meant that I never developed a healthy sleeping pattern). I've tried just about everything to no avail, but perhaps some of the advice will help you.
The one I found most likely to work was that you should attempt to force your body into a set pattern, do not let your insomnia control the hours you are in bed. Get up at a fixed time every day (including weekends) regardless of how tired you are. Go to sleep at a fixed time, one that is appropriate for the amount of sleep you need (some people need less than others).
Don't do anything else in bed apart from sleeping, if you lie in bed reading or watching TV, your mind does not have as strong a link between being in bed and sleeping. Some books have excepted sex from this rule, but I think that is more from the practical perspective than to assist sleeping.
Warm milky drinks such has been standard advice for a long time, as many people have said. A strong beer is not one I've ever heard advised, partly because it may lead to over-medication, and partly because while alcohol is a depressant after a 2 pints, I've heard that the dose response curve shows it to act as a stimulant after just 1 pint.
Control your breathing - try to develop a slow and steady breathing pattern. A lot of people find this very relaxing.
My advice: you shouldn't make a too much intellect-intensive activity (like playing videogames, surfing the web, reading a textbook or other) before going to sleep. Or else your mind will have a harder time trying to shut itself down for the night....

Your room is haunted.
Yes, there's something behind you.

Catshade: Your room is haunted.

Actual lollage. +1 rep given.
And I actually did that to my flatmates the other week, I wrote on the bathroom mirror with soap "Look behind you"
Then I forgot about it until the next day when one of the girls was walking down the stairs and my other flatmate said in an eerie voice above her "Look behind youuuu"
SHE FREAKED SO HARD! It was hilarious.
:Edit: To those who don't get the soap - try it. Then have a shower. Soap prevents the condensation from fogging the mirror ;)

Because I don't want to. I grew up in a neighbour hood full of esoteric hippies(my sister inlcuded) who always tried to teach me why drinking milk is bad both morally and biologically, and I have a dad as a highly educated physician who convinced me what bullcrap this is.
So no, screw this shit, I drink milk if I want to drink milk, it is in our nature and culture to consume from working animals. I just make sure that it is from bionomic healthy origin.´So I get cancer, but it's still my decision.
People already got enlightened that smoking is bad, still people smoke. So who cares?
And I also heard of crap how bad it is to eat eggs. I mean, seriously, just because someone posts some convincing artlcle doesn't mean I have to change my way of life because of his views and "facts". Opinion are opinion, dot and over.
Keep your room with fresh air.
Drink a beer or two half a hour before going into bed.
Talk to your girlfriend (through phone obviously) when you lie down.
These things help me fall asleep faster. Try some, if you haven't already.
Go to bed 9 hours before you need to get up. If you're still awake an hour later, take a dose of NyQuil.

And don't breathe air. Air is proven to be highly toxic in some parts of the world, and if you think you're not in that part, I've got a surprise for you.
Also, don't move. Moving to one place or another is bound to get you in harm's way. Just stand perfectly still in an enclosed space, preferably without breathable air, which is, as pointed earlier, flying dispersed shit.

Wishbone: And yes, I said 9th grade. We have a more relaxed attitude towards alcohol in Denmark ;-)

I love you guys. Fighting for the right to drink beer at lunch in the workplace. Not one, but 2-3. That just doesn't happen here up north. If you're seen with a beer during work you're probably up for being fired.

An added bonus is that this is the enviromentally friendly way to go. If you just stay completely still in one place, you cause the minimum amount of disturbance to the fragile balance of nature.

You can try using melatonin. Its a sleep aid for occasional sleeplessness. You can find it in the vitamins aisle (I think) in any pharmacy. You can ask the pharmacist for more info I am bad at this stuff.

Uhm, nor here. I think your information might be about 20 years out of date (but then, so was my story). Drinking alcohol during work hours is generally not allowed anywhere here. Private companies make their own policies of course. My place of work actually provides beer for the employees, but only on fridays after 3 pm. The rest of the week, there is no drinking during work hours.
