So back in 2003ish... a friend loaned me a game that was a ton of fun, but I can't recall any name of it; only what the game play looked like. Since everyone here is probably familiar with older games, I'm hoping someone can help me out.

The gameplay:
- The game was a turn-based strategy where you would control units to fight off aliens (I'll stop you there... NO, it's not X-COM or any of it's spin offs)
- The game view was the classic isometric view that you would see in X-com, but other than being able to fly above some forest terrain, it was primarily just the 1-level of play
- At the beginning of the game, you start with basic units of Grenadier, Rifleman (or something like that) and that's about it.
- The game objectives of each 'round' is usually something like Destroy the convoy, or protect this house, or something like that
- Later in the game, you get more advanced units like the helicopter and ability to do air strike

I'll try and post more information as I remember it, but that's all I can think of right now...

any guesses???

Shattered Union, maybe?
Not sure about the date...
What was the 'theme of the game? Sounds military kind of thing, rather than say sci fi or fantasy. Were you controlling humans?

I still have this game, but I don't think it is turn-based...
Sounds alot like Commandos, but that series didn't have any Aliens in it from what I can recall... :)
So... of the guesses that I saw, nothing really looked quite right.
The game had pretty cheap graphics, not any really bad, but certainly not anything where you would be able to spin around your viewpoint of the field.

Lets see what else I can recall... I'm pretty sure about the aliens part, but they weren't really scary type aliens (i'm thinking something like a pig face, but I might be way off) The aliens just had far superior weapons. I think before some of the missions, you'd get to pick what type of units you would take into battle with different units having a different amount of credits required to take into the mission,

...some of the missions were snow covered and some were kind of a canyon type look to them.

I've googled a bunch of 'old strategy games' but haven't seen it yet.

Turn based strategy game fighting aliens... Could be Incubation.

I think the theme was just kind of 'win against the aliens' ... Each mission would be harder and harder, but you would gradually get better and better things. It wasn't a military game per say... just kind of a combat scenario things.

nope... sorry lol... nope, but I remember seeing this game, not sure if I played it yet but it looks fun.
I would consider Nemesis to be a pretty much copy of X-COM, but it's about the right age/quality of the game I'm trying to find.

Isometric turn-based strategies were very popular in the late 90s early 00s, if I remember rightly. If it's not one of the famous ones like jagged alience or silent storm it might be kind of hard to find.

Googling I found this list: http://www.similargames.org/game/ufo-alien-invasion

However, nothing really strikes me as being like you've described.

You have reminded me of a similarish game that I can't remember the name of. I think it was different because even though the game was really like an isometric turn based alien fighting game, it was rendered In proper 3d I think, so you got slow motion kill shots (unless my memory has made that up). It was also inside I think.

Sorry, I can't be very helpful here.
