After more than a whole year of not beating it until now, I finally beat Fallout 1.

And this was really good game, the athmosphere, the characters, the voice acting, the non-linear gameplay etc. etc. etc.

My grips though was the story while yes it was really quite good, but than I don't I have seen this story before, these antagonists with there ideals of since they are Mutated they are worthy of being the rulers of the destroyed world, thats something I see in X-men. But my biggest grips is how its executed, perhaps its the time the game was release or mabye I am used to cutscenes with cinamatic voice acting and angles etc., I just don't feel as immeresed in the story compared to other story driven games with more cinematic flavor like Dragon Age: Origins.

Although I did really felt sad in the end:

SPOILERS

Bastard Vault Overseer kicked me out of my home after all the good things I have done for the Vault and the entire Wasteland, somy character shot him brutally in anger at this revelation and just walks away in the wasteland, with his down in sadness and even though I did all these good deeds in the wasteland I did not foresee the Mutant Army destroying Shady Sands, Necopolis, and The Hub :(

END SPOILERS

And gameplay wise this game felt short especially this game feels short on Content like more weapons and towns and talking head characters and quests etc.

But my grips are not that big a deal enough for me to not love this game. Well off to Fallout 2, is it better than 1, how different is it in terms of gameplay and content?

Well, your mileage may vary on Fallout 2 being better or worse. They are both really good, though. Fallout 2 features a pretty large number of, shall we say, crazier elements and a plethora of pop-culture references that put a lot of people off. I didn't really mind all that, but I can see people preferring the more serious approach of Fallout I.

In terms of content, Fallout 2 is a much larger game than the predecessor. There is a lot to do and to see, and not all of it is obvious. ;) My advice would be to take your time with the game. Try not to rush through it and enjoy yourself.
Congratulations on your acomplishment.

Fallout 1 has the better story and atmosphere but 2 beats it in size, scope and options. Way more weapons, armors, perks companions and a much higher level cap. You also get to revisit Vault 13!

I hope the final boss is not hard, I mainly focused on small guns and the Final Boss in Fallout 1 took awhile to kill even with the Sniper Rifle the strongest small gun in the game.

I prefered the first, but I'm a minority. (edit : hey ! I don't have time to merge my answers !)

Edit2 : the second opus is far more ..... criticizing ? In my opinion it's less 'simple fun' and more 'moral standpoint'

Ah the wonders of Non-Linear and non scripted gameplay :)

...To bad it comes at the cost of story presentation :P

By fans and people in general : definitely yes.
By purists : I'm not sure.

By me : The only thing I know, I played far more fallout Tactics than the 2 Fallout(s) together, but Fallout '1' is my top ranked videogame.
I've played retail version patched to the max (incl. latest unofficial patch) and almost didn't finish the game because of the crashes
F2 used to crash too, but much less than the first one
Nobody beats games like Elmofongo beats games :)

Good job brother, onto Fallout 2. Remember to patch it up before you go into. Get all the missing content etc put back into the game. :)
