lol STTNG adults- "Ignore The Boy, he knows not what he is talking about, we are all grownups, he is background noise." it got old the second time, and by the third time they ignored "The Boy" who of course had All the answers to their problem, it was laughable and a bit sad that they would write it that way Again. I feel you bevinator.

EDIT: Of course I suppose maybe that was for the younger people watching the show. But, for us adults, it makes for some of the duller Star Trek moments.

Star Trek TNG and DS9 are both incredible. Some of the best episodic scifi ever made.

I would recommend Babylon 5, as it is very Star Trek-ish in feel.

Fans of TOS, I recommend picking up the Animated Series, which is essentially a continuation. The two TOS games of 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rites on the PC can also be considered a worthy addition to any trekkie's collection. :)

Or at least Deep Space 9-ish :)

I never watched it either because i'm not much of a fan of space and robots and all that but there was a marathon one weekend on AXN SCIFI and they only played the classic star trek the whole weekend. I start it to watch out of novelty but then I ended up spending the whole weekend in front of the tv.

Funny thing is that the creator originally pitched the concept of Babylon 5 to Paramount Studios, who turned him down. He managed to get the show produced with Warner Brothers, and Paramount took notice - then they created Deep Space Nine. The odds of DS9 being a cousin to Babylon 5 are probable. Whatever the case, we got two good series out of it. :)

Regarding Star Trek series, each has some very good episodes, some mediocre and some that are a true crime.

For me (taking only the good episodes as reference), I guess it would be a close call between VOY (the Doctor, Seven of Nine, Tuvok -finally a Vulcan in ST again, albeit in a very minor role-, Capt. Janeway, the Borg) and DS9 (Odo, Garak, Quark).

I don't like much TNG (damn Wesley!). But Lt. Reginald Barclay is hilarious. :)

I've pending Enterprise series yet, so I can't judge.

I do have many reasons for not liking the show, and Bakula is just a detail. I was kind of teasing, but apparently that was a little bit too much for you.

Am still occasionally attempting to like star trek, and I still fail. Probably because of the aseptic universe, the military atmosphere, the grand humanist ideology, the alien races stereotypes (mentalities), the alien races design (facial masks), the regular unimaginative usage of earth medieval style for alien worlds, the music, the moralistic plots, the naive positivism, the space pyjamas, the heavy-handed humour, and, probably above all, the teleportation-based technology (a terrible plot device).

I like the terrible cheese, so I can watch some old episodes or bits and enjoy them ironically, but that's cheating. There's a few characters I appreciate (Piccard, Spock, maybe McCoy), and a lot more that I just can't stand (Data, Riker, Q, etc). And I've never felt any tension in any story so far, even though I found the borg concept amusing (though, it got killed quite quickly).

It's frustrating, because I love scifi. And that universe that I dislike takes all the room (okay, no, there's still star wars, a universe that I like much better). But, I mean, I've often wodered if I was missing an angle, or if they just didn't do it for me. So, such threads are always amusing and interesting for me. I like tro try to piggyback star trek enthousiasts, and try to see it a bit through their eyes. Same with superhero comics, etc.

Also I blame star trek for the absolute awfulness of space 1999's second season.

While I do like Star Trek (not love it like everybody else seems to,) I was never overly moved by it as well. There were some episodes with fantastic plot, and it's had some very interesting thoughts worth exploring, but aside from that, it never seemed all that good. Babylon 5 beats Star Trek any time in my book (but I have not seen Deep Space 9 yet)

You summed up pretty well what I like about it. :)

I think even adults need to dream, and Star Trek is a rather positive take on mankind's future, which is all too rare in fiction nowadays. The naivety only reinforces that. To each their own, but it baffles me that you like SW better, since it's even more cheesy and childish.
