I'm gonna go for the OTHER dungeon crawler instead. Torchlight II will be released around the same time, at a much lower price point, with the promise of great mod support (as opposed to zero mod support in D3). So, yeah, I won't be buying either.

I've made no bones about not purchasing the game from the beginning. I mentioned one problem that would piss me off that ne_zavarj had no problem with, as a hypothetical I wondered why it wouldn't piss them off because it would irritate the everliving shit out of me.

Your solution is a non-solution, at any rate, Blizzard is free to ban you at any time. It's a Battle.net game so you bet you'll get The Warden with it and if you do anything with macros that puts a bee up Blizzard's ass they can and will ban you, it's happened to people using macro keyboards that Blizzard cross-promoted with the keyboard maker.

Asinine apologies/workarounds for dumb design decisions shouldn't be acceptable nor even considered rational (imo). It's a shit feature that does me no good, is likely to irritate a great number of users (including the non-technically inclined) and your solution is to install some sort of third party script/program/macro to work around said asinine problem that shouldn't even exist in the first place (and even then may not solve the problem if your adventuring area despawns). Said third party script/program/macro may further lead Blizzard to ban me from multiplayer, thus banning me from single player, thus showing that: NO, you indeed CANNOT play a multiplayer only game such as Diablo 3 as a singleplayer game.

I don't know how it works today but we used to get those fuckers 3 day bans by reporting them back in the day. Blizzard can and will do something about it if players complain and they've been rather fickle in the past with what is and isn't allowed with regards to macros, etc.

A few years ago I knew people who would idle in battlegrounds, which was annoying to me (even though I never got into WoW, played a month and found it incredibly boring), and then never got banned. I always hoped they did.

Hopefully they have kicked up enforcement of that.

I don't see them catching you or even caring in Diablo 3, especially when you're alone in a game, as it's not degrading anyone's enjoyment of the game.

Didn't Blizzard win a lawsuit against a firm that created software that mimicked human interaction? Don't they maintain that one has to license the copy that gets loaded into RAM when one loads the game? Granted it was a bit more nuanced than that, but Blizzard doesn't tolerate those sorts of tools.

It's not really a solution to the problem when one can get banned if it goes awry. But, that's just me.

Back when we were competing for Grand Marshal that shit was not tolerated, with the advent of arenas maybe people care less about BGs, I really don't know. I do know being a part of the top end guilds on a server automatically gave you more credibility (yes, Blizzard really does show favoritism to them, progression guilds often got fucked up loot restored off of bosses, for example). A 3 day ban back then could put you back 3 weeks of progress for Grand Marshal/Warlord, btw, ultimate justice.
Yes, you're thinking of the guy who made Glider (or maybe WOW Glider, I forget). They didn't just win a lawsuit, they won a multimillion dollar judgement against that guy.

orcish is right. The guy made a bot that would play World of Warcraft for you, not get you booted off the server for idling. They wouldn't be able to use the same argument for someone who made a random mouse click script because you wouldn't have to look at anything D3 related to make it (I believe their argument was that the guy who made glider was violating their EULA by examining or modifying the copy of WoW in memory, but my memory could be incorrect).

Fun fact: The people I knew who would idle in battlegrounds would also run glider to gain levels. They spent more time having a bot play WoW for them than they played WoW themselves.

Yes, that's the one I was thinking of, although I wouldn't have been able to remember the name otherwise. Ultimately the thing about that case is that it sets precedence for any software of that type which one might want to use, even if it's for something benign like just loitering in town.

diablo 3 is more like a mmo with no pay per month model,i prefer playing diablo type games solo and offline,once done with the single player then i would look for multiplayer. i hope torchlight 2 and other rpg's succeed .

It shouldn't be illegal however considering that courts already ruled on Glider, I suspect that the same would hold for more innocent botting. Blizzard has gone all Appley on the subject and expects to control how you play. If you want to play the way that Blizzard wants, that's not really a big deal, but if you want LAN play or to have a single player game, then that's not so good.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Torchlight 2 as it appears to be in many ways what Diablo 3 should have been and IIRC Runic has some of the same people working their that had worked on previous Diablo games.

The modability alone is likely to make it worth buying.
