Okay, yes, we've had quite a few threads like that, often by new-ish forumers, but, that's my turn.

Two reasons lately :

1) The regional price thing. I had no strong strong opinion on it (there is no such thing as absolute "fair pricing" on videogames, and, as some blue remarked, a true fair price should evaluate each individual customer's financial situation and adapt to it), but still, I loved the "okay, well, fuck that" conclusion of the whole story. And it really decided me to support gog even more by getting even more sloppy in my impulse buy self-discipline here (actually, it made be buy games I have no chance to start any year soon given my backlog, but I wanted to throw some money at GOG).

2) My anti-censorship request, which was dear to me (because random meaningless censorship irritate me even more than deliberate agenda-pushing censorship), just got labelled "in progress". Maybe it means that, as per my suggestion, GOG will indeed try to find the uncensored versions of their games (like giants or gobliiins) instead of just considering that they're done with these games since a version is on catalogue. Or maybe it's just a "yeah, whatever" thing, and I fall for it. But still, there's a chance they're sincere and do consider censored games (especially when the censored details are ramatically futile) as "incomplete", and deserving further efforts. And the thought makes me happy.

So, yeah, it works on me, I'm on an absurd wishlist reduction spree, because, well, I guess GOG's wallet is where the hugs apply. But I needed to make it visible. A bit like a reverse boycot announcement - boycotting means nothing without a statement.

I'm buying games because GOG pleases me. Yay gogpeople.
I plan to be more cautious about my statements in the future regarding how GOG business practice is in line with my wishes. Suffice it to say, I was very happy up until 2013, and hopefully this will continue in the future. A quick glance at my shelf is proof that I rewarded this state of affairs.

Then again, my impulse control is generally a bit on the retarded side.
Well said Telika. I for one am happy with GOG because in here people are allowed to use Christmas avatars despite the fact that IT'S THE MIDDLE OF FUCKING MARCH! :P

Interesting point. What kind of crazy person would still be using a Christmas avatar in March?
I'm happy with GOG because it permits me to indulge my hoarding disorder without my apartment looking any worst for it. On the down side I have so many game in my digital collection that it now have mutated roaches.
I'm happy with GOG because games.

That is all.
I'm happy with GOG because they don't judge me for riding a shopping cart through the town centre whilst naked.

Also great support, DRM free, reasonable prices, fun sales, yada yada, blah blah blah, etc, etc.

My best friend got rid of his Christmas tree three days ago. I feel betrayed. :-(

I actually hadn't even noticed yours. :P Telika knows I'm just yanking his chain and it's conversations like this, along with the games and game support that I am happy with GOG.

Actually, do other on line distributors offer the same DosBox and Scumm assistance that GOG does? I can't run those programs for shit so I'm always grateful that GOG does it for me.
I am also very happy wth GOG, perhaps the most I've ever been as I feel like they are expanding faster and faster and getting more and more generous and inspired. Regional pricing is an obstacle to overcome at a later date (when the world has a more reasonable understanding of intellectual property and how digital downloads can not be treated like physical goods) so I was actually perfectly ok with the initial announcement, I think getting more publishers on board with DRM free releases is a more important first step than telling them to shoot their business model in the foot at the same time. I actually felt a little sad when GOG backtracked on the idea, but hopefully that future with reasonable publishers who understand the product they are selling (and that they should not count on regional pricing) will come soon enough that GOG does not have to co-pay the games we buy.

GOG, you never cease to surprise me with your self-sacrificing customer-focused mindset. "By gamers for gamers" belonged to another group before, but with you it is actually true!

As the person who marked that wish as "in progress", I feel I should clarify my decision as I don't just mark things as being in progress or finished lightly.

1. As you've noticed in the past, we always go back and tweak our older games, whether it's the addition of a language or two or a soundtrack or any other goodie.

2. I marked that wish as in progress due to the fact that we managed to offer everyone the uncensored version of Harvester. I also marked it as in progress because we will try and get the officially uncensored versions of a game whenever possible and, if possible, get the uncensored versions of our past releases if:

a) a game had an official uncensored version released. Unofficial patches or mods that remove censorship don't count but since we don't have DRM there's nothing stopping you from taking off the censorship in the privacy of your own home.

b) we have the permission of the IP holder/publisher.

I can't guarantee that we will be able to uncensor everything but, damnit, we will at least try :)

3. Keep in mind that certain German versions of games will not be uncensored due to the fact that they may not have an officially uncensored version (officially meaning the developer put out a version that was uncensored) and we don't hack games to remove censorship.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

It's amazing how many games I have physical copies of, I have on GoG for that very reason.

Hm?

P.S.: I love GOG too. But I'm not buying more games because of that, because I already have a huge backlog :P
