doccarnby: I have, actually, though not related to Rage. I did it for System Shock 2. Bethesda support thinks it's an issue my dedicated card not showing up in DxDiag.
Yeah, that would probably explain it. Rage might be a bit low res, but it definitely needs a half decent card all the same.

Yep. Sadly this means I'm in the sea of messing with BIOS' and hoping I don't brick my computer. Fuck you, Acer.

I'm surprised that Bethesda didn't just tell you that Rage hates laptops and left it at that. But with Rage running on iPhones maybe that's not true. It scales down pretty well (it's scaling up it's not so good at).

Be very, very careful with updating the BIOS. I can't make any specific recommendations as each board has it's own best means of flashing the BIOS. But if the option exists use a tool to identify and download the correct BIOS. It might also have the option to flash it through that same tool. I've done it that way and it was fine.

But yeah, different mobos, different best options.

Try asking on the Acer forums about the best way to go about flashing it before you do so. Chances are they have sticky threads already in place about this very question.

Thanks. Maybe I'll get through this just fine.

Edit: Oh God, I don't think they have a forum.

Some people on here seem to know their way around Acer laptops:

Awesome. I love the GOG forums.
So I'm thinking, two USB sticks, one with the modded BIOS I want, and one with the official BIOS from Acer, in case things go wrong. Would this work? And if so, how would I go about making a USB boot drive? Is this valid?
It worked.

Awesome! Glad you got it fixed up.
