This switchable graphics shit is making my head hurt.

No luck in the BIOS i'm guessing? :( Not sure what else you can do other than bitching to ASUS/AMD or risk bricking it with a user modded BIOS. Whoever at AMD thought using the Intel HD as a pass-through for the other graphics chip was a good idea AND having no BIOS setting to permanently switch them, should be kicked in the nuts, repeatedly, then fired. Evidently Rage isn't the only game that doesn't work on that switchable tech, Skyrim and a lot of others reportedly don't either. How new is that machine? Is it possible to return it?

I got it about a month ago, from Newegg. I apparently need to send back everything it came with, box and packaging included. Guess what I threw out? I haven't heard about other games having the same problems. Maybe it's a Bethesda thing?
If my memory is correct. Rage had problems with Radeon and Bethsesda published the game id made it.

It's mostly AMD's fault than it was Bethesda's. AMD cards don't play nice with mostly OpenGL engines like idTech5. I was fortunate that the Rage performance driver amd released pretty much fixed all the issues on my machine.

It was pretty comical at the beginning with the constant flickering and screen tearing.

If the modified BIOS screws up my computer, is there a good way to revert to my previous BIOS?

You can flash it back to the latest official BIOS from ASUS, as long as you can still reach a point where you're able to do so. It's always a risk messing with that. Make sure you grab the BIOS that matches the exact model of your machine, and if a modified one for your exact model doesn't exist I would not even attempt it.

I have a Radeon HD 5450, its pretty crap and it ran Rage perfectly from day one. I would suggest you dont flash your BIOS to play a pos game like Rage.

I have no idea how to do that.

I'd not bother with it then, like F1ach mentioned Rage isn't worth bricking your machine over. Just keep an eye on ASUS' website for updated drivers or BIOS update that solves your problem.

Just talked with Acer support again, and this time they suggested a system restore. I'm not certain how that will help at all.

Now they're just clutching at straws, mate.

That's what I was suspecting. Acer support kinda sucks.

Have you tried installing a codec pack? If a video codec has screwed up somewhere, somehow then maybe replacing it will solve the problem?

I have, actually, though not related to Rage. I did it for System Shock 2. Bethesda support thinks it's an issue my dedicated card not showing up in DxDiag.
