I have Fantasy Wars on Gamersgate. It has Starforce. Naturally I wanted (still do) a clean, malware-free version. But yeah, the only torrent available was the GOG version which I wouldn't touch even though I've got a legal copy on GG.

Vorax: I checked out some trailers and gameplay videos of Hotline Miami, but I can't afford it right now. I was on a torrent site and I almost clicked "get this torrent", but then I noticed it's the GOG installer and all the bonus materials, and I couldn't find it in my heart to download it. I decided to wait till I could afford it. Did this or something similar ever happen to anyone?
I'd be tempted... but since I always buy my games while they're on sale (gog promotions)... it feels like i'm stealing them anyways :p.
I like having an account here and a relatively big collection of games.
I do hope however that we get the possibility to classify our games in our shelves by genre or personisable categories ... (So far only the hidden and not hidden games sections :/)

Why'd you buy it on GG in the first place? GOG sells it too...
Thanks for the replies everyone. Now I feel a bit guily. I did not make this thread to get a game for free (otherwise I would have just posted in the GOG Community Gifting Thread), rather than to share an honest experience, but thanks to the kindness of two GOG members - Coelocanth and Dischord - I now have two Hotline Miami codes. I have a few codes for some games that I originally wanted to trade for, but I only felt it becoming that I offer them something for return. Dischord didn't need anything I have and I'm still waiting to hear back from Coelocanth. Whatever I have left I will be giving away on here as a small thank you to these two members and in return for their generosity.

I did the same. Realized it was a GoG torrent and pooped my pants. I played the game and 5 minutes later bought it.

Hotline Miami is damn good by the way.

Azrael360: They're (sic video games) a privilege, not a necessity.
Culture and gaming appear to be psychologically necessary for our well being. As soon as you are in no danger of starving to death you need stimulation and we've used gaming and other forms forms of culture for this for 10s of thousands of years. The bit of common wisdom you are sharing and that I've quoted has been shown to be incorrect by vast bodies of anthropological, sociological, and psychological study and work.
Well i'm wondering how good is the Carmageddon GOG version, so i'm considering pirating it since there is no demo of it.

I bought the 1C Complete Pack for a pittance.

KingOfDust: Wait till you can afford it. It's not going to kill you, and it will taste much sweeter once you fire the game up if you know you've acquired it legally. Unless you have no morals, then it won't make any difference.
Unfortunately you are confusing "no morals" with "my excact morals" theres a difference, in which the 2nd is purely subjective dependent on the person stating it.
Or maybe in your mind pirating is comperative to, lets say genocide?
I've been tempted to pirate Baldur's Gate 2 to replace my half-retail half-burned copy, just for the sake of not needing to swap discs.

Azrael360: because what they do is a steal, and nothing else.
You couldn't be more wrong seeing as piracy is NOT stealing and therefor something else, piracy falls under the category "copy-right-infringement".
Piracy is basicly like seeing a car you like, finding the schematics, and remaking an excact copy, ofcourse doing this on the internet requires no work at all, which is why it's so wide-spread.
Which is why the piracy laws and so...diffuse (very dependent on which country you live in), because copy-right-infringement for non-commercial (only private) use has for a long time been accepted as completely legal, at least in a LOT of countries.

edit: you might think the terminology is just a minor detail but i truely matters, im pirating civ4 as we speak (as i want to play a specific mod for it), now i even own the game (with both xpos) but it would be a 3 hours drive (and i have no car) to retrieve it from my home at my parents, there is therefor no copy-right-infringement at all in action here.
But if it was stealing we were speaking of, the action would still be illegal.

(it is important to note that when speaking of digital ownership, number of copies is not an issue, as it would be with physical things, in which case my product would have to include a right to duplicate for private use)

I didn't pirate Stranger's Wrath HD from GOG, myself. Do I get a reward? :P

jk!!!

There is nothing wrong with considering it, the thing that is actually wrong is the action of pirating it.

Now if it was a game that has been removed from the catalog and it isn't available anywhere else, I wouldn't fault you for that. Especially, if you found this site after the game was removed and never even had a chance to buy it. With that said, you better make it an insta-buy if it returns and when you get the money. It's the decent thing to do.

I disagree. Due to digital distribution, they are switching to artificial scarcity. Like, for example digital book renting thing. Cracked has some good articles once in a while, and the on this topic is quite good (if you disregard writing style ofc)
http://www.cracked.com/article_18817_5-reasons-future-will-be-ruled-by-b.s..html

Also there is
"You wouldn't download a car."
Fuck you, I would if I could. *just to clarify, fuck you is not intended to you*
And it's closer than you may think:
http://www.ted.com/talks/lisa_harouni_a_primer_on_3d_printing.html

I know I would print new part for my car if I could, especially if it's extremely expensive, or really old. Would you?

With that said, I almost completely phased out pirating games, save for Android stuff (and I'm only doing it because paid apps are unavailable here) and console games that are also unavailable.

Piracy is such a tempting thing..
Just last summer, I wondered if I should put on baggy clothes and an eye patch, take the rowboat out on the lake and shout the Ducktales theme at some seagulls.
