shadesofdeath320: My parents will definitely lose power since even a slight breeze causes an outage back home in southern NY, but I should be okay here in Albany.
Got the laptop charged just in case with some choice GOG's installed, along with a bottle of Bailey's and Captain Morgan to pass the time.
Alcohol and bad weather are so great together.
Alcohol goes with almost anything. But as a kid, I lived in a rural area with a weak grid, summer thunder storms were sure to take out power several nights during the summer, I have fond memories of reading as a family and some board games by the light of a kerosene lamp.
I've heard of a preparedness strategy that calls of "faking it" once a month. Cut power, make sure your batteries are fresh (you're using them) and everything is where you expect it, make dinner, and unplug from the world. This sounds like it would have the second benefit of just being a reprieve from always going... well too fast is the way I feel in the world (most days I wouldn't trade it, but brief respites are welcome).
