just saying this but when Good Old Games went to just being GOG i did not see any outrage as such , but now one company offering their games to survive is bashed ? if there were no drm free versions , how do you expect them to make them at such a position where they are bankrupt ?
just to let you know that not many angered by this even notch tweeted saying he was happy with the bundle

liquidsnakehpks, This has nothing to do with what THQ does or doesn't do. But I think you are greatly overestimating the effort required to make games DRM free. But lets put that to the side. The issue is here is not what THQ has done but what Humble Bundle has done. The problem is that Humble Bundle has agreed to these terms.

? so you think its easy to convert em into drm free games just like that ? this is not using no cd cracks to make em drm free like someone has done before, even gog could not sell witcher 2 drm free on their game at first , the drm was removed later in a patch , so imagine for thq. i dont see the terms anywhere ? what terms?Post edited November 30, 2012 by liquidsnakehpks

liquidsnakehpks, I am talking about them agreeing to let THQ do a Steam, WIndows only bundle.

i see that but where are the terms ? that say they should not do that , just on a customer level wikipedia says this about hib "The Humble Bundles or Humble Indie Bundles are a series of collections ("bundles") of video games, music albums or eBooks that are sold and distributed online at a price determined by the purchaser, but of at least 1 cent. In most cases, the games are multi-platform, DRM-free, and independently developed, and buyers can set the revenue split between the developers, charities and humble bundle organizers."
i dont see any mention there that the bundles must always be drm free ? or indies only

Endzville: You miss the point of what he said. Do you think Psychonauts was brought to Linux and lost its DRM overnight? Of course not - it was planned well in advance of the bundle's release. As Zirun said, these things aren't decided on a whim. They take time and money, things that THQ unfortunately do not have.
Kristian: The decision may well have been done well in advance but that was because of the bundle, now we will cease getting any new games like that. Going forward all the game going forward that will be DRM and cross-platform in these bundles will have been so before being approached by the Bundle. From this point on we will cease getting cross-platform, DRM free debuts and that is bad, very very very bad :( Furthermore, I feel like pointing out that the Humble Bundle have folk have been trying new things all year, with a music and e-book bundle. Just because this is different and may happen again doesn't spell the end of DRM-free, cross-platform debuts on the site. The aforementioned bundles and the Indie Bundles will remain exactly the same so what exactly is the big deal?
Too many of the posters on this topic grasp desperately at what they believe the ideas of "ideals" and "principles" are of the guy at Humble Bundle, let alone any such "rules" at all it would seem. It must have been a shitstorm here when GOG re-branded itself from Good Old Games yet - shockingly - they continue to release older titles just as the guys at Humble Bundle will continue to release big Indie debuts as they've been doing.

Kristian: My source is common sense. Look at the commercial and critical success of Double Fine. They are a highly esteemed dev studio. They, unlike 90%+ of all deves, have been able to retain IP rights for all the games they have done. Thereby proving the amount of leverage they have.
My source is commoner sense - do not accept your intuition as fact. Doesn't matter how "highly esteemed" a studio is, I sincerely doubt humblebundle would beg anyone. Hell, double-fine didn't even get to be a humble main event at humblebundle.com, you had to go to humblebundle.com/double-fine to find them. Thereby proving you wrong.

SimonG: You are saying this like it would be given that any DRM'd game won't be able to run in the future. That is just wrong. GOG itself is often selling cracked versions of games. As long as DRM is not integral to the game itself, it does not stand in the way of gaming.
MMO come to thing. And Diablo 3. But every game that has a cracked version around (and Steam is far more easy to crack than most DRMs of the last ten years).
And the very fact that Steam so far, hasn't removed a single game from their servers, makes them better at gaming preservation than most libraries do with books.
I don't disagree with you. I don't really disagree with you about anything, I have 400 games on Steam and typically don't give a shit about DRM because I can crack it if I have to.
I still understand it's a bummer when a 100% DRM free website starts selling DRM'd games.

If you don't like it, vote with your wallet. Money always does the talking.
None of games are really interesting (I already have Metro), so I pass and wait for something on a par with the one selling Psychonauts.
