Sogi-Ya: yeah, but each copy IS a monetized commodity so by "giving" these to HIB as if they were a fundraising contribution they are giving away sales .... I'd guess that they can't claim the full value, but since they are giving away revenue, and each one is actually a sale unlike torrents .... but people do claim torrents as loss, so .... I'm guessing that I just dinged the core of THQ pulling this.
kalirion: Like I said, what's stopping them from giving away a billion steam keys for free and claiming even $1 lost revenue for each one? A trillion steam keys? say you have 1,000 t-shirst with your company's name on it, and it's a name that people like; you have the shirts because your company wanted to sell them, but no one really bought them or didn't buy enough, so you say fuck it and give them away for free since it puts your name out there as marketing ... that is not a charitable donation.
however is you were to give them away to someone else who is looking for shit to sell to raise funds for a charity, you yourself would be supporting them in supporting a charity since they wouldn't have anything to sell without you giving them 1,000 t-shirts (that you had to pay to get made) .... even if the shirts are essentially worthless to you and a market failure, it's still being donated to raise money for a charity.
from a tax perspective HIB is probably something of a Non-profit corporation that specializes in running fundraisers for Childsplay and the EFF, the products they sell to raise funds for said charities would then technically be donated to them to sell for said charities. EFF & CP get the money that is attributed to them, HIB gets their tip, and the publishers subtract what they get from the calculated tax write off of donating the games at market value.

Total sales have been over $1.5 million today. Not sure what the breakdown is with amazon/paypal/google fees, charity, humble tip, etc., but that's no small chunk of change.

Although I personally won't be buying this (DRM and no mac), I think its great that it is happening.
If THQ was to go under, who knows what would happen to these games, maybe they would continue to be sold, maybe not.
At least this way it gives people a chance to get the games before they go under, and maybe the revenue they generate will be enough to see them through the tough times for a little longer, maybe even pull out of the trouble they are in.
Fingers crossed they pull through, then release some nice games DRM free on gog :)

I have never bought any of these bundles, but this one greatly interests me. How does this work? I pay what I want, and then... what?

Normally, they'd email you a key page that you can visit to download your games (or a torrent of your games), download the soundtracks, and look at your Steam keys. In this case, they email you a key page you can visit to download the soundtracks or look at your Steam keys.

yeah, i'll probably buy it anyway. might only do $minimum average tho since they likely won't do me any good and i already am set for gifts more or less. So how does this work do I get separate keys for each game or all in one like gog does?

Also, if you buy early, regardless of over the average or under it, you'll receive whatever bonuses are added on later on (as has been the case with most humble bundles).

Germany - Saints Row: The Third
I suppose that means the cut version :(

Let's seriously hope not! Germany - Saints Row: The Third
I suppose that means the cut version :(

Would be a typical move of Steam, though...
Blimey! I didn't pay for a localized German version!
If I would like a low violence, crappy voice acting, German version I would say:
"Liebe Steam Verkaufsdödel, einmal Saints Row 3 bitte, gleich einpacken, danke für's Gespräch ihr Vollpfosten!"

SirPrimalform: Well perhaps you can understand that it's the change in principles that people are upset about. Just because you didn't care, doesn't change the fact that it was obviously a strong part of Humble Bundle's identity to a lot of people.
CaptainGyro: Yes I'm aware of that already why are you telling me this? I can read. I'm just explaining why I'M not angry about it, OK? This is the thread where we discuss the Humble Bundle, isn't it? A considerable proportion of the posts in this thread are me bitching, with second place going to everyone else bitching.
