Okay, I just bought my first Steam games - for 0.25 cents a piece. And gave everything to the Red Cross.

You guys should've expected something along these lines when they received a significant outside investment from a private equity firm. Making big bucks does require a slight philosophy change. and yeah it's slight, until they do this with the indie bundles this is just a way to one up the competition. This is about getting eyes and wallets open on humble bundle site in the biggest spending season of the year, globally. Which judging by the amount of money already generated, succeeded. This after a big steam sale.
I don't hate them for that, and actually quite glad I get SR3, RF and darksiders for such little money.
Bundle brought, and let's try to think with a little clarity and save our pitchforks for the possible event they do this with a Indie Bundle, then I'll to get mine. Until then, it's a damn good way to get a really, really fantastic bundle of games. Heck, just buy for the OST's alone.

mondo84: I'm looking at this as Humble not sacrificing their stance. They're just helping out THQ with a sale. I know it goes against their motto and principles, but I guess the way of business is that things evolve.
SirPrimalform: wat. Doesn't make it right per se, but it doesn't mean that HIB will stop having DRM-free indie games.

I gave them a buck for Metro, though I doubt I will ever play it on PC.

jgresham: I don't think there is much reason to be upset, and this isn't such a huge departure for HB. The last bundle I bought was HB for Android 4 - the pc versions of the games were Steam keys there too.
The Humble Bundle guys have so far been able to demand that a bunch of devs release their games as DRM-free and multi-paltform. They will no longer be able to do that as the devs will just say: "If THQ could get away with releasing Steam keys for Windows only, then why not us?". This will in turn hurt GOG since devs and pubs will be saying: "If even the Humble Bundle guys are willing to accept DRM, then why not you also? Stop being so fanatic". So GOG will get less games unless the give up their principles. So yeah, this is bad, really really bad. Edit:
Just wrote the following email to the Humble Bundle guys:
Hi I am writing this to let you know that I am very very disappointed that the Humble Bundle brand is no longer any kind of guarantee that games will be DRM free and multiplatform and that by agreeing to THQ's terms you have lost all the leverage in your negotiations with development studios with regard to getting them release their games in a DRM free, cross-platform state.
They will just tell you that since THQ was allowed to release their games in a Windows only, Steam only fashion they too should be allowed to do that. I am seriously worried that this means the Humble Bundle will have produced its last DRM free debut and its last Linux/cross-platform debut.

Iain: The thing you need to bear in mind here is that retail disc versions of RF Armageddon, Metro 2033 & SR3 have always required Steam. So regardless you are stuck with Steam (ties to a Steam account) on these titles and no doubt they will probably require a lot more work to remove all the Steam stuff etc
Darksiders and also CoH were just keycode activations if bought at retail on first install, so they could have done something with at least those 2 games.
StingingVelvet: Previous games in the HIB were Steam only before hand. It's not that hard to remove Steam, I assume you know pirates do it on day one all the damn time. Darksiders and also CoH were just keycode activations if bought at retail on first install, so they could have done something with at least those 2 games.
Thats all I am thinking, what they have done though is turned their backs on the people that have bought and supported HiB and DRM free in the past this time around.
Don't get me wrong I support and enjoy Steam as a platform, but at the same time I appreciate different peoples take on this and do think they should have really tried a little harder for the good of everyone, not just the Steam users.
