I replied to you, SimonG, because I thought you might be interested in this.

Perhaps others have mentioned this and I learned this late in the game, but I found a trick to get Winter Assault to run from the version of the game included with the Humble THQ Bundle (GOTY).
I just discovered something today, I found weird that Warhammer 40k : Dawn of War GOTY that came with my Humble THQ Bundle actually installed in a directory named 'Dawn of War Gold' and it also contains the executables for the Winter Assault expansion. If you try to start the game from the Winter Assault executable it will open the regular Dawn of War game and not the Winter Assault like you would expect .. BUT .. if you use the 'add a non-steam game to your library' and point to that same executable of Winter Assault.. yep .. you can play the Winter Assault. Unfortunately that applies only to single-player but it's still a nice bonus for anyone who intended to play the DoW game.

I thought some people might enjoy that little trick. ;)

With the inclusion of Sacred 2 Gold in the Deep Silver bundle only in the form of a Steam key, despite the game being DRM-free elsewhere, I just wanted to take the opportunity to necro this thread and say say that I told you so.

That we will see less and less choice in our bundles partly due to key abuse.

Edit - sorry, I did not mean you "banging on about" it, but that it is something I do...

Well, you're entitled to bang on about it no matter what I might have wished at any point. :P
Besides, I mostly agree with you on that, I just don't feel as strongly. I did like your GOG giveaway thread, quite a nice way of illustrating the point.

What exactly? That big publishers don't care about DRM free? Well, congratulations!

No, specifically that the THQ bundle was a bad thing and that Humble Bundle's change of policy has been detrimental to the quality of their bundles.

... in your opinion. If you don't buy into the whole DRM marketing angle and only judge the bundles by the games in it, then the THQ bundle was pretty inconsequential. While there obviously isn't any way to prove it, I think that even if there hadn't been a THQ bundle, Deep Silver wouldn't have bothered with the inclusion of DRM free Sacred 2.

And the inclusion of the THQ bundle hasn't change the Indie Bundles a bit (afaik). The only tangible change was that big publisher can use the HB structure, but that hasn't affected the other bundles. (similar how the android bundles had no influence on the indie bundles, or the weekly bundles).

Now, we will part on this with different opinions, as there simply is no way of knowing, but do you honestly think Deep Silver cares about DRM free enough to include Sacred 2 DRM free if there hadn't been a THQ bundle?

Well at one time Humble would have demanded DRM-free versions of all the games. Now they've fallen so far as to not even distribute the DRM-free version when one already exists and I feel the THQ bundle was the beginning of the slippery slope that led to the current bundle.

I don't think Deep Silver gives a crap, but they obviously don't care either way given the fact that there's a DRM-free version in the first place. Since they don't really care, I see its omission as a failing on HB's part.

I like buying 5 full price games for £5, that is all
Frankly, if I was obliged to stab myself in the arm with a needle every time I wanted to play one of them it would still be a good deal!
