snowkatt: no no it was the jaggies and the low polygons and the piss poor net curtain transparency effects

daytona looks awfull but plays awesome ;p

Klumpen0815: For some people flaws are design features, look at all the new ultra low res games.
There is a reason why there are interlace-modules available for a very high price that transform the crystal clear picture of a modern flat screen into something more blurry like back in the days.
why do you think consoles are cool ?
the developers manage to turn stregnths in to weaknesses
just look at the atari 2600 and a little trick they used to duplicate the onscreen sprites and suddenly we have a home conversion of space invaders

the 64 colors on screen of the egadrive both ahelp ana hinderance a hinderance because its just 64 colors
but when used well it makes the games look darker and more "mature" which is what sega was going for at the time

and instead of you know doing something with their other ip's like ice climbers exitebike dr mario ( its a good puzzle game )
f zero
mother \earthbound ( not a fan but alot of peopel want to see more of this series )
another wave race
another code R
and countless others they seem to be content with endless mario party titles mario karts smash bros
and zelda rehashes

super mario allstars 25th anniverary edition was a fucking joke

and considering what other M pulled metroid is damaged goods right now

off course they say games are coming
there wil be a new wii U starfox but when exactly ?

nintendo either sees fit to relegate their new titles to the 3DS while giving the wi U the rehash parade keeping the games in japan or just letting their titles rot
They really seem to be focusing primarily on their mobile gaming devices, while neglecting that poor Wii U ( and its owners ).

Seems like most of the big Nintendo releases during the last year or so were for the 3DS. They got the Pokémon games, Animal Crossing, at least one new Zelda game, Bravely Default which was a huge success, plus most likely several other good RPGs, and also a Resident Evil game or two. And all of the remotely interesting Wii U releases also end up with a 3DS version, such as Smash Bros or Mario Kart.

When you think about it, I guess it all comes down to simple numbers and profit optimization. No doubt the 3DS has a larger user-base than the Wii U = more potential sales. And on top of that, I'd bet 3DS games are cheaper to produce than "higher quality" home console games.

Feels like they're letting down all of the early Wii U adopters, though. They could probably move many more units if they simply made some definite announcements for a new ( proper ) Zelda game, Metroid or some other big series.

Klumpen0815: A SEGA thread that's finally about Nintendo again is quite sad.
I never was into Megadrive or Genesis and never had a SEGA console since I grew up with SNES, but I always thought Sega Saturn and Dreamcast to be the peak of console gaming. I honestly regret having bought an N64 and not something from Sega instead.
R.I.P.
I pretty much had them all, and believe me, you didn't miss out on much. The N64 easily had a games selection that's as good or better as that of the Saturn, and perhaps even the DC. ( Unless you're trying to say, you wish you had supported Sega more. )

To be fair, I probably missed out on many good Saturn games. The one game I consider truly memorable is Guardian Heroes, by Treasure. Super fun side-scrolling brawler, with RPG elements, branching story-lines, multiple endings and a crazy multiplayer arena mode. :)

Well, they could always go for the smart thing and port them again. Even directly from the arcade where possible. :)

nah nothing to do with nostalgia
when a game look sliek crap and plays like crap its crap
but just because it look spoorly these days ( and a lot of saturn games do look like ass ) as long as it plasy well graphics do not really matter
just look at daytona usa

and what you said about games is debatable it all depends on taste
but the dreamcast had a bigger and more varied library then the n64 thats for sure the n64 mostly coasted along on nintendo titles

the dreamcast had a library that was utterly insane and varied there was a dearth of beat em ups and jrpgs on the n64 the dc had them in spades for example

personally i cant stand guardian heroes annoying game play
constant cutscene interruptions
very short stages before another bloody cutscene
boring story lines
an over reliance on cheap AI
and branching paths that dont amount to much

not really the satursn finest hour

no that would be sega rally and daytona usa and daytona CCE
sonic R
nights and christmas nights
panzer dragoon 1 2 and saga
fighters megamix
fighting vipers
street fighter alpha 2 and 3
x men vs street fighter
astra super stars
waku waku 7
kof 95
kof 96
vf kids
keio 2
discworld 1 and 2
shiningf orce 3
shining wisdom
shining the holy ark

and i probably misssed a whole host of others the saturn has more good games then you think ;p

but liek i said i am a saturn fan so i am obviously biased
Correct me if I'm wrong, but $3.73 must be among the worst average purchases I've ever seen on a Humble deal.

What was so great about Sega Saturn? To me it seemed like a Playstation that couldn't do transparency effects (that's why many Saturn versions had kind of "grid effect" trying to mimic the missing transparency effect, while the Playstation version had proper transparency).

I guess the biggest selling point of Saturn were Sega arcade ports like Virtua Fighter 2 and Sega Rally?

My only touch to Sega Genesis/Megadrive was reading about its release in a gaming magazine, and feeling a bit annoyed that it may have better graphics power than my Amiga 500 machine. Not fully sure if that was the case, maybe they had strengths in different places?

At the same time, the mobile bundle average is much higher than usually ($7.18 currently, usually less than half of that). Apparently their little experimentation with trying to lure people to use more money, in order to unlock more games to everyone, is working? I dislike that kind of tricks though, I'd like to know already at the purchase what I am actually paying for.

Well, ok, maybe the $8 unlockable games affect that too, the average is still under that though...

It's one of the worst Humble deals.
2nd week BTA games have been unlocked. They are:

-Sonic Generations
-Viking: Battle for Asgard

1st post has been properly updated.
Viking I already have, not too bad but not great either. But Sonic Generations is something I wanted for some time.
Meh, not bad games but only 2? I was hopping for a condemned...
With that text "More games coming soon" for a week you would think that at least 3 more games were going to be unlocked, but only two...? That's kind of disappointing (:P)

realkman666: Total War Rome II: Caesar in Gaul DLC

AHAHAHAH Humble really is shit now.
Indeed.

FFFFF~ So they're fine with including Viking in a bundle for about 4 bucks, along with several other games, but they won't release it here on GOG, for say, $10?

Fuck you Sega. :((
