Fictionvision: I installed Dead Space, closed Origin completely and tried running the game. It worked. I then figured why the hell not and uninstalled Origin. The game still loaded.
EA - "Not having their shit together since time immemorial"
You can do it to Dead Space, but all the classic C&C games there start bitching if Origin is not found.

Falci: Has anyone had problems with The Sims 3 key? It's a 4 piece code instead of the five of the others. When I try to activate it on Origin, it points me to The Sims 3 site, but once there, they ask a 5 piece key for activation and won't acept my 4 piece key.

Hey everyone, I want to give you all an update.

We’re aware of the 16 digit / 20 digit conflict issues with Sims 3 Starter Pack. We didn't become aware of the problem, until we saw a pattern in where users were redeeming the product code.

If you redeem the 16 digit humble code in the client, your game details page should have a proper 20 digit key for installing the game. (However it is still possible to have not gotten an updated 20 digit key)

If you unfortunately redeemed the game through www.origin.com/account it would retain the same 16 digit key instead of issuing a proper 20 digit key needed for the game. [For some who tried this and we redirected you to the thesims3.com to redeem your code this was also incorrect. This was our mistake]

We are extremely sorry for the mixture of confusion and frustration that this has caused.

For the majority of the users in this thread, we will be working the next 24 hours on automatically updating all accounts that were affected by this glitch, to ensure you get a proper key for the game. I assure you that we will get this fixed.

I would also like to say thank you to everyone who has participated in the HumbleBundle and has helped raise money for charity, but again we are sorry for this issue, and we're working to resolve this.
Weird question to ask. Those games that download through origin, but doesn't require for Origin to run when game launches, do they have other drm?

niniendowarrior: From EA support forum. You have to wait till the 2 sites sync up. Some players redeemed it via Sims3.com and it didn't show up in Origin, only in Sims 3. So, it looks like what folks are advising is to sit tight and wait it out.

Falci: Well, I actually thought as much. :) But thanks for pointing it out. :D
Mine synced on both websites. Just have to figure out about the Date Night keys left.

amok: Valve and EA got in a bit of a tiff over expansions over Steam, and as a result EA pulled out from further games on Steam.
avatar
bansama: Actually, it was Valve who pulled the games from Steam, not EA. Also it wasn't so much a tiff, rather Valve changed their distribution agreement to a model that EA were not happy with. EA didn't want to comply with Valves new demands so Valve removed the affected games. But naturally, Valve can do no wrong, so all the blame falls on EA.
hehe, someone elses bias showing up? you are the one who read "can not do any wrong" from my statement - It was quite neutral. I do not think it is bad that EA pulled out of Steam, or Steam refusing EA. I do not mind Origin at all, and it makes it easier for EA to focus on their stuff... and I do not like putting all my eggs in one basket. What happened was Valves loss *shrug*
It's noticeable that Origin decided to drop their shares to charity, but Humble guys still ask for the tip ;-)

Hey, I don't blame them. These things don't happen overnight, especially now that they're playing with the big boys.
I wish they had MORE INDIES! most of those games I already have on steam and Or don't want the other ones

I know, I know. I was just saying it in regard to all those "EA are greedy bastards that make shitty games for money" ;-)

So EA are now the good guys and Humble has turned to the dark side...(not that they werent heading there anyway)

Obviously they're to get more users to try out Origin, but it's nice that EA is giving all of their share to charity. It's a great bundle, and that's even before the Humble Bundle customary bonus games after 1 week. Speaking of bonus games, I'm hoping (though probably wishful thinking) to see Dragon Age and/or Mass Effect.

I'm not judging here, but I wonder where are all those "I hate / boycott EA" peeople. Probably already bought a copy and are playing BF3 or DS3 right now ;p

From my perspective, this shows that EA is actually among the good guys, at least for multibillion dollar corporations. Can you imagine Zenimax/Bethesda or Activision appearing in Humble Bundle for FREE?

Ok, I know EA is doing this to promote Origin. But at the same time, they are providing steam keys to most of the games. Which is another proof EA is a better company than EA haters think.

They gave Steam keys so more bundles are sold. More bundles are sold, so more money goes to charity even though some of the people will use steam keys instead of Origin keys, so EA's goal may not be always achieved.

Damn, I love EA.
Just the other day I bemoaned my tendency to buy games even though I don't play them, and here I am buying this. The good thing about not playing is that at least I'm spared the problem with the servers. I probably have over 100 keys from bundles which I haven't redeemed.

htown1980: Wow. Why would anyone ever buy a game for more than $1?
I know. I get more and more convinced of that every day. I still bought Giana Sisters, Half Minute Hero and Defender's Quest last month for more than that (still with a large discount), even though I imagine that at some point they will be in a bundle, but that's just because of some misguided notion that it's nice to support the developers.

That said, I really need to cut down on buying games, which I don't play after all. Okay, off to buy a gift copy of this bundle then.
