And to answer your question, yes, the long tail of an indie game is usually EXTREMELY short. Its best days are in the first week or so, because sales drop off to practically nothing thereafter. Two Tribes was one of the oldest and more well-established indie studios, and I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more in the months to come. Indie games are very rarely profitable.
The Linux port of Joe Danger 2 was actually created through a development studio paid for by Humble Bundle, as are a great number of the ports. The port you see on Steam is a fairly recent addition that coincided with the HIBX version. Also, Hello Games did say that the first game was being ported as well together with it.
