fortune_p_dawg: That's a good point. They DID release it, and people DID buy it, so at the very least they should support the product they took my money for.
They did. They released the DRM free version way into the shelf life of the game. The DRM free version is done and finished. I haven't played the game in several month. But even when the DRM free version got released, that was maybe 50% of the already available content.

Now, they released a new version DRM free "GOTY" if you will, which is again state of the art. And we don't know how they will support this version.

IronStar: I'm always amused when people from rich countries have worse.internet connection than I do.
I still feel sorry for you guys, as I know the pain but it's still amusing.

gameon: My house seems to be doomed, as most people in the area seem to have no troubles. But then again, we have had some cheap and nasty service providers. There's the saying "you get what you pay for". It's fast and stable during the day, but in the evening it cuts out EVERY NIGHT. Most of the time it loses connection for 5-10 minutes, resumes, and then about 20 mins later it cuts out again. I have to find another internet deal, but i can't be bothered, lol.
Try poking your ISP's tech support. It helps most of the time unless you have some stubborn asshalts as ISP, in which case you should ditch them. :)

That's definitely the case. It's just that we have to have an all in one broadband and phone call anytime daily package, which only a few isp's offer. Damn annoying.

From my limited knowledge, my guess is that your ISP is BT? :P

BT is actually one of the best, lol. If i had that, i wouldn't have these problems.

SimonG: If they decided that the time invested in patching and supporting the game through any other mean than Steam is bigger than the few extra DRM free sales, than that is their damn right.
Exactly. But I know for a fact that other devs, who didn't strike it rich, still manage to support a bunch of distribution channels, address users' complaints on an individual basis and even waste their time on me personally. Since Eyebrow aren't doing that, their time is worth more than the extra money they'd get from the "no DRM or no sale" people. Which, in turn, means they can do fine without my money.

SimonG: Nobody is forcing you to buy it. But that is how the business works and no reason to be angry at them.
They made a choice I don't like. That's seriously the only reason to be angry at anyone.

grviper: Doesn't it mean $0.00 to those who pay payment processing fees and bandwidth costs?
avatar
SimonG: But Humble sold out by only making windows releases and Steam keys anymore.
Protip: Stop putting words into people's mouths.
avatar
SimonG: I certainly don't. They should make some kind of verification software that all HiB Steam keys from one bundle can only be used on a single account, Shouldn't be that difficult. Still not fix the problem 100%, but it would be a start ...

I knew why I scanned the forum before making that joke ;-).

Crassmaster: You wisely know that you aren't the only person who enjoys mockery. :)
I hate you all for ruining for me... I wanted to do this... Can I just point out that they also manage to get a game previously only on Steam DRM free also (Shank 2 was only on steam, right?)

Anyway - not the best bundle, in my opinion, right now Build A Greenlight Bundle have a better selection of games. Still, will get this one for all the DD DLC's and Closure. Waiting to see what other bonuses they as the bundle goes along.
Okay, so is Dungeon's Defenders worth it? I'm not a big fan of multiplayer, and even if I was, there probably aren't many people playing the DRM-free version, right?

I'm just asking because the rest of the bundle isn't very exciting, I already own Legend of Grimrock so I'm not sure if I really want to beat the average this time.
Hope they add Amnesia: The Dark Descent to this bundle or GOG gets it, I foolishly passed on getting the older bundle it was in.

Kristian: How much did you guys go for and how did you distribute it? I went in for $35, with around $14-15 going towards charity and the rest to the developers, with a Humble tip of $0.00. Made it count towards the Linux average.
I always do a 20% devs, 60% charity, 20 % HB distribution. For me that seems fair.

But it is your choice not to use Steam. It's not like your blacklisted by Valve. (AFAIK)

Fictionvision: If they aren't willing to support all versions of the game they shouldn't have it up for sale on other store fronts. Apparently they are OK enough to release a DRM free version here, but won't take it down from Desura and still accept sales there.

A dev saying they don't want to sell a game elsewhere is different from them actually doing so then refusing to support all versions.
avatar
SimonG: AFAIK, they only sold the core game DRM free. Any DLC requires Steam. The core game is finished and does not need anymore patching and can (presumably) be played with other DRM free users online over trendy net.
If they had put on the store front upfront a notice saying "This game will not be supported past this release." things would have been better. As is the game you buy and download from Desura has links in game for you to purchase character DLC that just takes you to the game's steam page. (info taken from the reviews on the Desura page.)

So from the start, they knowingly sold a version they weren't going to support. If they knew they weren't going to bother supporting the DRM free version any further they could have disabled those. Instead they leave them as a nice "Oh hey, you bought the wrong version of the game! Re-buy it here so you can buy more DLC from us!"

If all you care about is getting it DRM-free then it is available direct from the devs with very little DRM. Just have to type a CD-key on install, verifies it offline. It's also on Amazon, but no idea about the DRM.

But don't you get the Steam keys with the DRM free version? It was the case with the bundle and many developers give out Steam keys for free, as they don't cost the devs any.
