I am tossing up whether to buy the latest humble bundle, other than torchlight (which i have) the games don't interest me heaps but like everyone else I feel that owning something gives me happiness therefore I want to own more games for more happiness.

I am wondering how much to pay and how to allocate the funds. I am wondering how much to give to the HIB people, how much to charity, and then how much to each developer.

Do I give more to the devs of the games that I want? What if I really like a game later but didn't give enough? Do I give more to torchlight because they made a great game that I have really enjoyed, although already paid (not much) for? Do I split it equally? There are 6 devs so I would want to give at least $1 to each, even that seems cheap. But then again, I don't even feel like I really want these games.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

You can't split it that fine in that you designate a certain amount to specific devs. You decide how much goes to the devs as a group overall, how much to charity, and how much to the Humble Indie Bundle guys.

As for how much, that's totally up to you. I only tossed 6 bucks at this one, as that's all I could spare for it this time around. I split it between the bulk going to the devs and the rest to HIB. I skipped the charity, as my wife and I have our own designated charities we donate to yearly, so I felt I wanted to toss the devs the biggest slice of the (admittedly small) pie..

Just so you know, there is a little arrow next to "Developers" on the page, if you click on that, it opens up a panel that lets you mix up how much is going to each individual developer.

Bollocks. You can do precisely that and it seems like the OP is aware of that. He's musing on how much to give to each, not whether he can or not.

Default split is fine unless I have a couple of the games (sometimes 2-3 times) in which case more goes to charity. I don't fuck with the Humble Tip, they need something to run the promos.

Ah, well I stand corrected. I was (obviously) unaware of that. I never even really considered doing it that way anyway. Always figured they'd want an even split between all the games offered. But thanks for the considerate correction.

I don't want to come across as a bit mean but I honestly do not give a lot to the designated charities. I try and split it more towards the devs and then evenly split between the charity and the tip.

Why? Well, EFF and Child's Play are good charities but just not something I think should be the default. I feel there are other ways to make a difference and it's probably better if I give them less from the whole transaction and just use that money I saved to donate to other charities.

I used to do default, but after the little stunt they pulled with Botanicula I make sure to 0 out the tip now.

BURN! Though I would hold Amanita more responsible than HIB for what happened with the Botanicula release. But that's history, I guess...

Anyway, I like to do about 70% devs, 20% charity, 10% tip.
