OK, sorry, but WTF? How did you reach the exact opposite conclusion of virtually everyone here?

GOG already got the pre-orders, whether the bundle came out or not. So what we're talking about is the move that the devs pulled with the bundle.

Customers that pre-ordered but don't know enough to dig into this stuff will only be mad at GOG for this, so it will hurt them in the long run. It makes it look like GOG is ripping people off when they are not.

Those who did not pre-order are not likely to go to GOG for the game since they can beat the average price and get the whole bundle for the price of just Botanicula.

So all around, this was a **** move on the devs part.

1. No to their own store because they didn't offer pre-orders there. Now you know why was that.
2. Yes, to Steam. It's even worse for them because Steam doesn't even sell the game yet. This isn't the first time a game has had Steam keys and wasn't sold on Steam. Indie developers are taking full advantage of being able to get free Steam keys for their own games and giving them away to please everybody and keeping all the profits. Valve apparently approves but I wonder if they'll keep providing that service for free once everybody starts getting Steam games from anywhere but Steam.
3. GG had a preorder too so yes, it was a dick move to them too.
4. I don't think Desura has this.

So, the developer pulled this stunt while taking advantage of every store that was willing to carry and promote their game for them. This is the GOG forum so people will comment on the GOG preorder, I don't see why you thought otherwise.

Sometimes developers make mistakes. It happens. Kind of the same as Recettear being in a 5 games for $5 bundle back at Christmas, when there was still a crapload of people who would've bought Recettear had it gone on sale on it's own for $5 (or even more since it hadn't even got near that then).

On topic: i feels like a big finger to gog.com to be honest, but to be fair I do not really care about aminata games (only thought machinarium was decent), so this does't really affect me in any way. If it was for something i did care about i would have been a bit angry i think (and it would definitly cross my mind to buy to bundle and a very low price...)

Except most people were more pissed that the HIB gave the full soundtrack etc while (at the time) GOG only had 3 tracks (according to the devs FB page GOG will be getting the full soundtrack and the artbook among other things now)

And, as I tried to politely mention: Roman is not 3 or 4 years old (if he was, pretty sure GoG would have to legally close his account since they are taking information?).

Stuff you can get away as a kid are not the same things you can get away with as an adult. Or even a slightly older kid.

Or, you know, the people who buy AFTER the sale is over. There ARE sales on Steam when it is not December, the last week of November, or July...

So GoG benefits from the preorder sales (meager or not, that is still more than most other stores would get).
If we are assuming that NOBODY will ever purchase again: GoG got more sales than Steam.
If we are assuming that people will purchase again later: GoG is no worse off than any other store, and still benefits from the early bump.

As for those sales from the humble bundle: Yeah, Humble Indie Store and the devs benefit from that. Just like how Valve doesn't benefit from a GoG sale and CD Projekt doesn't benefit from a Steam sale. Or are you saying they should fix the prices so that NOBODY can ever have a discount (think Apple recently got yelled at for that :p)?

1.) GOG is going to have an awfully hard time getting publishers to sign on if you require them to make deals like that. As far as I know, none of the other download services require that.

2.) I'm not sure if that point is sarcasm or what, because "Born This Way" moved eight million copies in about six months. That's both successful and not too far away from her previous albums.

Unfortunately this only applies to the preorder. Lots and lots of people don't actually do preorders, but instead buy in the first week or to, and that means that ALL of those people are going to buy it from HB instead of from GOG. And once the bundle is over, nobody is ever going to want to pay full price for this game again, because on release day it was super-cheap. It may not be bad for the individual buyer, but it's bad for GOG, and Amanita HAD to have known it was bad for GOG, which is why they kept it a secret.

It seems to me like they were just using GOG as a preorder venue, and past release date were just planning on giving them the finger.

Or they just wait for a sale. GoG will probably have it for 5 or 6 bucks during a sale (if not less). Steam will probably have it for 2 or 3 bucks (because they are Steam and Steam are KAH-RAZY!!!!).

So, as I said: If you already bought the game, you paid what you feel it is worth. Sales shouldn't change that, otherwise a lot of my favorite games are now garbage, and them be fighting words.

I'll say this about Roman's tirade on the Amanita forums - while I don't endorse his use of foul language***, Amanita had to see this coming. If they don't then they're idiots. Plain and simple.

You don't pull a move like this and then have people knocking at your door to offer you tea and crumpets. Duh. If Jakub (or whatever his name happens to be) doesn't want to be called a jackass, may I suggest he stop acting like one?
