Gundato: Saw the bundle and figured I would see how the community is taking it. Sadly, can't say I am surprised (real "classy" guys...). Jesus Rodriguez Christ guys, the GameFAQs forums behave themselves better than this. How about, rather than acting like a bunch of angry toddlers, you stay calm and rational?
To the people who are making purchases that are purely to charity and/or not acting like this is the end of the world and itching to drop a Godwin-bomb: Good on you.
To the people who are running around and cursing like someone pooped in their cornflakes: Way to reinforce the stereotype.

Is it kind of a dick-move to do a pay-what-you-want the second the game is released? Sure, but it is no different than a lot of "Pay what you want" deals. Or a lot of early sales, for that matter.

And to everyone screaming they got ripped off (or, as pointed out in the other angry thread: Roman who would only be angry if he DID get ripped off and is clearly super happy right now when he has not been affected in the slightest...): You bought the game at whatever price point you paid. Clearly you feel the game was worth it at that price point, or you would not have purchased it. What is the problem? Did the entertainment:moneys ratio somehow go down because other people are going to enjoy it for cheaper?
If so, god forgive anyone who actually paid for Tyrian. That AMAZING game is now the worst investment ever because 10 or so years later it is free!

SLP2000: Thanks for this post.
I think the problem most people have with it is not the whole 'wah I could have bought it for cheaper', more the slightly dickish move towards GOG about the whole thing.

wodmarach: new post by amanita folks
I almost forgot. everybody who pre-ordered Botanicula on GOG.com will get the full soundtrack, the art-book (not released yet) and Machinarium for free tomorrow. and of course you all have our eternal gratitude for supporting us:)

Damage control in full gear. Well this is good for the guys and gals that secured the original pre-order for us at GOG :)
I pre-ordered the game from GoG mainly because I wanted to support GoG rather than for the game itself so I don't feel "ripped" or anything, but still I find it's not a very classy move (I could even say not very smart) from Amanita.

Not not just against GoG but also against the other online shops and even peoples who pre-ordered from them. Of course they have the "right" to do it, but just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you should.

...

Except that it is also a "dickish move" toward their own store (they had pre-orders on their site too, right?)
And to Steam (I assume Steam sells this, if there are keys)
Not sure if Gamersgate or Gamesstop sell it, but it is a "dickish move" to them too.
Does Desura carry this? Does anyone USE Desura for anything other than IndieRoyale bundle purchases?

So what makes GoG so special? People are acting like this is a direct insult: It isn't. It is just the marketing approach they took.

I know that. I preordered this game, and I don't feel bad for myself (I'd pay 10$ for it anyway) but I don't think they played fair with GOG.com

But I guess this could turn well, if everyone talk tomorrow about it.

I think they should add GOG.com keys to HIB and make a huge announcement about that, and give those who preordered games on GOG keys to Machinarium (on GOG) plus they should add soundtrack to the goodies.

I don't believe so.

liquidsnakehpks: roman5 has disgraced the gog community with such stupidity , jeez roman5 go ahead show your childish behavior but why drag gog into it , i hope he is warned severely for this :X , no one wants to think the whole community is like this, im gog staff are working out something to help out the people who pre ordered

gameon: Now come on. I think its really annoying how people get villified for sticking up for what they think is right. Sure, roman let his emotions get the better of him.

But its not nice having several people telling him it has let us all down, and he should be punished etc. Just leave him alone people!
No, Roman threw a temper tantrum. Plain and simple.

Do you approve of the toddler in Walmart who is screaming and crying because his mother won't buy him a stuffed animal? He thinks his mommy is obligated to buy him Jerry the Giraffe. But all he is doing is screaming and crying and acting like a toddler. Of course, it is at least semi-justified when said person is 3 or 4 years old.

The fact that they slapped everyone equally doesn't make it any less of a slap in the face.

I don't believe they did. The pre-order was a GOG exclusive.

Ah, okay. I know it was heavily marketed as a "GOG exclusive" though - http://www.indiegamemag.com/gog-host-exclusive-drm-free-pre-order-of-botanicula/

Then, if anything, GoG should be THANKING them. They probably gave GoG quite a few sales it would otherwise have never had.

So we basically have a bunch of people angry about GoG, if anything, getting unfair favoritism? Well, that brought a smile to my face.

if you look at past history in the gog forums , this is not the first time hes jumping into the line of fire , without thinking

The vast majority of people wait until release to purchase. Pre-ordering guaranteed GOG a handful of sales, but the majority of sales would have come in today or the next couple of days. Now, because of the timing of the bundle, I'm pretty sure they'll see a huge reduction in that.

The more conspiratorial amongst us may even suggest this was a move to devalue GOG so the Humble Indie Store can launch (which it's rumoured to be doing imminently).
