Hi GOG team and all the nostalgic gamers. This might have been asked before, but I can't find it here: Is there a way to officially and legally give a game(s) that I allready purchased and don't want anymore to another GOG member?

You can gift purchased games to any person with GOG account - visit the page of game you want to give away, and there under 'you already own it' banner is the option 'gift it'.

That involves re-buying the game though, it does not allow you to give away a game you already own. Frankly, there is no way to do that on GOG, but it is definitely the kind of thing that is worth suggesting to GOG as a future feature.

Also, I don't think it will ever be possible, due to the fact that GOGs are DRM-free. Even if you give your game away from your account, you'll be able to play it. I know, they trust us and all, but they would be overly idealistic to believe someone really deleted all traces of the game's executable from every place he/she made a backup of it after selling/giving it away.

Good point. I guess the whole "you buy it, you own it" is permanent.

Thiev: Sorry, I had no idea. Good that you pointed that out.

Also, it's not to a person with a GOG account, but to any e-mail address. The recipient will have to create an account to redeem the game if they don't already have one.

On the plus side the games are hardly extortionately priced so as long as you have gotten you enjoyment out of the game (even if you will never plat it again) you have got your moneys worth

Thank you all very much for the answers. Guys, I think that especially due to the fact that these games are DRM free, should I have any kind of nasty intentions with the game installer, there is no reason for me (or anyone as a matter of fact) to ask if I can give it away here. I mean when you think about it, without DRM anyone could just go wild with torrent, rapidshare or a similar service so why bother with an official gift giving, right? What I believe is that any person willing to officialy give away a game from their account has no reason to try and keep the actual installer for themselves - what would be the point of that?

I kind of agree with you, as I'm in a similar situation. I have no intention of ever playing Shattered Steel, bought it because it was a cheap action game but found out it wasn't what I was looking for (instead I should have bought one of the Unreal games). At $6 though, my biggest regret is that it takes up space in the virtual shelf so I can easily accept the situation.

Maybe they should enable it for some small fee, let's say 50% or just $ 1. Adding such functionality would be hard.

Honestly, given the unpopularity of the used game market with publishers and the fact that GOG is already pushing DRM free, having the ability to sell games to other members might turn into a stumbling block for future publisher deals. Best to keep operating on the "honor system" for now.

:D Not sure how we got to selling all of a sudden but that's ok I guess. What I want is to GIVE some games away for free free free. It's not like anyone could actually lose on this. My situation is similar to Miaghstir's - Over time I bought few games that I didn't really enjoy afterwards and thus I played like 1 or 2 levels of each so I reckon why not let someone else enjoy them in their full beauty instead of them just taking up space on my virtual shelf. I'll put it another way - preferably I would like to give them to someone, but I'd also welcome if there was just a chance for me to remove them from my account and never see them again. Yes, that is how very much they don't suit me.

But again, in the warped world view of the common video game publisher, that is seen as a "lost sale", since the person you would be giving it to is therefore not going to buy it. If GOG were to allow for or create a system to facilitate that, it could be detrimental to their goal of getting every publisher on board with GOG.
