One thing that bugs me about GOG's forum is... I don't know how to get timely game-specific help when I'm having problems, or... how to find OTHER people that are having game-specific problems so I can help them.

For example, I'm having a problem with Game X. So I go to the Support Forum for Game X and leave a question. How do other GOGers see my plea? Do I have to wait, perhaps for months, for somebody else to stumble into Game X's support forum before they even see my question?

I spend a lot of time in the General Discussions forum, but I can't say I've ever seen this issue discussed. I've snooped around the Forum but I don't see a "Recent Topics" or "Latest Post" section... did I just miss it?

For example, I see a lot of GD topics on the home page if I click "Discussions" at the bottom, and also a lot of GD topics under the "Hot Topics" panel of the Community page. But I don't see my own question showing up anywhere (except in my own "Favorite Topics" panel.

I get the feeling when I leave a question about a game that the population at large never sees it. Unless I post in the GD section, which seems like the totally wrong place to leave game-specific questions.

When I go to the main forum/community page, I have a list entitled "Game specific forums" on the left. More or less, this is a list of all of the games I own. Next to each forum, it will say when the last post was. I give it a quick glance daily. If there are new posts, I visit the forum.

Hmm, I can't "click" on the word "discussions" at the bottom, it is just a key to show you what the colored bubbles mean.

Anyway, your questions won't show up in between other posts if you have them stickied. HOWEVER, as far as everybody else is concerned, they are. This display is for your convenience so you can easily find your own topics.

It is proper etiquette to post topics in their correct place.

How soon you get an answer for your question depends largely on two factors, namely 1)how popular the game is, and 2)how many others have encountered the same problem.
In the case of less-played games and/or very particular problems, the GOG support team may actually be a faster way of getting help. Of course, you can still open a question thread after writing them.

I guess it can never hurt to post in the game forum even if you have also contacted support. Others might help you, freeing up support. Or, if support is faster than the community you can edit your post, or post the answer yourself for others that might encounter the problem later.

I for my part always keep an watchfull eye on the forum of games I am familiar with, and it's easy to notice on the community page if a forum has been updated.

Thanks for the reply! I never noticed that the (very faint) date/timestamp next to a forum as being the last time a question was posted! Good to know.

Well, on my home page where it says GOGmixes, Ratings, and Discussions at the bottom left... those words are links that change the content of the list to their right. For example, I don't see any Ratings until I click on the word "Ratings". It may depend on whether you're using a plug-in like "NoScript" (like I do) whether they're clickable or not?

You should alsp see some "highlighting" for new entries. So you can see if something new has been posted without looking at the date.

Edit: I've attached a pic to show you what I mean.

Ah, I see what you're talking about, I wasn't looking directly on the main page, I thought you meant main community page.

Honestly? That feature is rather useless. I suppose it's good if a member only comes around every few months and wants a general overview of the buzzing topics. They are mainly GOG news posts which have hundreds of comments. If you're trying to ask/answer game specific questions, they won't show up there. Best to start at the main community page and go from there.

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to play with that feature. Is that GOG doing that, or is that just your browser showing links you've clicked on? For example, I clicked on a Forum, and that did indeed un-highlight the link. But when I updated a post in that forum, and came back to the Community page, the link did not re-highlight. Maybe it takes some time to take effect?

I also wonder... what is the significance of the checkmark to the right of each title? If you uncheck a game, will you never see it on this page again? Which also begs the question... just exactly what are the games that show up on the main Community page? I always assumed it was the specific subset of games that I own, but it's not complete (in my case) if so.

I don't think it's part of the browser, but of the GOG account itself. If I go on the forums with my notebook it also shows me the threads already read on my desktop pc as marked.

The checkmarks are just for favourite (as in show up on community page) game forums. It gets auto selected once you buy a game. But you can also manually select one by searching for it in the search bar next to "Game specific forums".

Before posting you can click the Support option at the top of the page. This brings up a list of the games you own. Click on the game you're having problems with, and you'll get a list of general technical information, along with previous questions regarding that game that have been marked as SOLVED .

It may be that your problem has been encountered before, and a solution found.
