I was wondering, is there any specific cutoff date for 'old' in games for GoG?

I think the hazy cut off line is whenever a producer/developer/owner of a game decides they're not making money on the regular primary market anymore.... DarkStar One is from 2006, so that's only two years agoish

Every game is old, even if it just came out, cause it can become just older :D

I would have thought that if this model is successful for older games, they would be able to have a shot at a companion site for new releases, on similar terms.
Personnally, I would appreciate some sort of distinction, because otherwise the "old" is really unneccesary.
Having been a gamer for a long while (~20 years), I would consider things that are 10 years old to be considered "old", but that just leaves us up to 1999, although I would suggest that (to me at least) there was a "golden age" in the 90s of good games, and above all a great range of games. Having a PC for gaming in the 90s made you feel on top of the world in a way that hasn't been the case more recently.

the newest game is "sensible soccer" and it too is from 2k6, but it's not quite 3 years old yet. I expect to see titles from 2k7 now.

If a publisher offered a game that was only a year or two old, I doubt that GOG would turn it down. But I'm sure that would be a rare instance because PC games have longer "shelf lives" than console games.

It's easy really. All games that start coming out in these CD magazines are "old" enough (maybe not for me, but maybe for GoG and certainly for game developers). Games that leave the stores for over two years are tipically eligible. That's why Sensible soccer (2006) is old enough while Elder Scrolls Oblivion (2006) and The sims 2 (2005) aren't.
My opinion? There should be more pre-2000 games 'round 'ere...
Yes, exactly. And it seems more and more publishers turn to these discount sales sooner and sooner to milk that few bucks they can for formerly hot now just barely warm titles.

Personally, I think this site should be primarily used for reviving dead games of years past (preferably 6 years old or older), games that are now very hard to find or have never been marked down in all their years on the shelf (Last I checked, Oblivion's still going for $49.99 at retail stores). But if I see a game that came out more recently for $5.99 or $9.99, I'd probably gobble it up if it holds any interest for me.

I just bought the GOTY edition at Walmart for $19.99. Best Buy sells it for the same price. I already had the collectors edition, but it was cheaper to buy the whole thing again then to get the add-ons.
As for the question itself, I think GOG should get whatever it can get, provided they keep the prices low.

Im not positive, but i think Amazon.com will ship to Brazil. They sell the GOTY version for $19.49, but you'll have to add shipping to that.

They do ship to Brasil and they're very good at that... except it's only books. They only ship books to Brasil. Back in the days they would ship CDs and software (I got AD&D Core Rules 2.0 from them), but not anymore, as far as I know. Probably got a lot of complaints because most people only discover they must pay around 50% of the total cost of product + shipping as customs tax when the merchandise gets here. I can imagine thousands of people refusing to pay and asking a refund, which they generally issued (back in the days too).
Edit: I checked and Best Buy won't ship abroad, Walmart got it only for $49 (at least on the site), CD Universe is expensive and Amazon got it for $19 but still doesn't ship software to Brasil (though they starting shipping to several countries).

In answer to the question, no, I don't think there is a hard cutoff date for what GOG considers "old enough". From what I have seen of the games that GOG has offered so far, the only requirement seems to be that it must be a game that the original publisher has either allowed to fall out of print or is currently selling at a significant discount. Essentially, if you can find the game on the "$10 or less" discount rack in your favorite software store, regardless of its age, it is a likely candidate for the GOG treatment.

Hmm, makes me hope for Age Of Empires then.. I recently saw those at walmart all last year.. for the $9.99 it included aoe, aoeII, and the expansions.
