Coming off of another thread just now, and since I thought about this just yesterday, I decided to count/estimate how much I've spent on games here since I joined the site shortly after it opened its doors. While I frequently like to call GOG a great place for affordable and good gaming, which by and large it still is, it may not ring entirely true for those among us who buy more than they can play. *cough*

Hell, I already know of a few clunkers I've bought - they may have looked interesting/nice, but weren't all that fun when I ended up playing them - and there could very well be others I may not even be interested in getting to, so I certainly squandered a little bit of money here and there. Curse you, impulse buys! Yet those were mostly 50% sale items (thank goodness), and it's pretty likely it's less than two dozen for said clunkers or so I hope. =/ I sure bought a good share of games during the last summer and christmas sale, but there is still a great chunk of titles for which I've paid full price.

In any case, out of the 195 games I have sitting on my virtual shelf I've bought 188. Yikes! For those I paid a rough grand total of $941 (+/- $15), and I'm pretty positive half if not more of that was spent since last spring. Yeah, that was my "catching up on buying games I'm interested in" phase, especially after acquiring my dedicated GOG computer. ;)

It may seem like an awful lot of money - to some it probably is - but it actually isn't all that much in my case. I've spent significantly more in the past, which I've definitely gotten a bit better handle on, but I think it probably could still need some toning down. It's a work in progress, I guess.

Seeing how my income has always been relatively low I always am a little stunned looking back and realizing how much money I may have wasted on games over the years. Yet again I've gotten better at saving, too, so things are looking up. At least I never really lived from paycheck to paycheck like some have to...

Now before I ramble some more - don't I love it so? - I'm curious to see how much some of you have spent on your games here. Do you only buy the games you really REALLY want or are you prone to impulse purchases like me? Or a healthy dose of in-between?

Before I forget, can you figure in any gift purchases for your own total? Yes, I'm a selfish bastard, and I've yet to buy anyone a single gift. =P ...although I've considered doing a first giveaway of sorts, which I may finally do in May. At least the only gifts I've received were from GOG itself, participating in only two 'contests' during my three-and-half years here.

Money you enjoy spending is money not wasted. A thousand bucks over a couple years is what, a phone bill? A netflix account?

Looking forward to your giveaway!
I bought 13 games from GoG since Dec 2010 after a friend suggested the site to me at another forum (thottbot-legends.com). First game I bought from here was Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, followed by Gobliiins Pack. I got hooked on this site after purchasing Lands of Lore 1 & 2. Then I stumbled into the forums recently and found myself checking back here a lot. Hmm, I should post this up on the Addicted To thread instead.

Anyway, 195 games is a lot! I'm a bit pickier because I don't earn too much and try to get a balance of outdoors, family and games, but honestly, find myself sitting here anyway looking for gaming deals. ^_^

I'm guessing I've spent about $65 +/- $5. The thing is, I already have many of the games offered at GoG on CD's and 1.44" floppies I bought over a decade ago.

I think you're right about "it actually isn't all that much" because if you think about it, we would spend much more on new games than on old games and we're getting a really good price on the money we spend, on the time we spend playing them. Like Oasis789 mentioned, "money you enjoy spending is money not wasted".

Pretty much, for the time being I've mostly stopped buying games here as I've a long backlog, but over the last several years I've probably spent $700 or $800 on games here. I'm too lazy to add things up, but compared with a phone bill over the last like 3.5 years, you're talking about $2100 or so.

But, when you think about it, I probably could have gotten like 12 or 16 PS3 games new for that.

My trading card habit, I don't even want to guess about how much that cost me when I was doing it. My current cost is something near $400 for the last year, I'm sure I was spending more than that back in the day.

Alright, I give you that. That's quite true, and I really can't say I was filled with disgust as I was buying games from GOG. While I'd never buy a game just to support GOG or the like because that in itself I find bizzare and a little bit dumb, something like it may yet have influenced some full price purchases as saying thank you for bringing certain games/publishers here. Naturally I needed to have an actual interest in them, i.e. (not all but some) EA and SQE titles.

True enough. I've definitely got plenty value from it, even if I may end up not loving every game I got. My reinvigorated interest in PC games of yesteryear definitely has put a damper on my console purchases, which is a very good thing, I tell you.

Yes, overall, I'm much better off than I was, and now I've actually saved up enough in case I want to buy something I'm really really interested in - no impulse purchases with that money. Case in point, I've been wanting to buy a digital piano for some years now. I just want to get back into playing the piano again after many years of not doing that. Yet my more past careless spending ways stopped me from saving much before.

So... I'm still mulling it over because I may or may not move to a different city by the end of this summer, so I may still hold off on that before I know for sure what's happening there. Lugging something like that around probably isn't too fun, plus, moving always has some extra costs involved.

A whole lot. 77 games five freebies ( I believe) /sarcasm. In my opinion, I believe it's important to support this site, I would gladly buy them all over again. Long live GOG.

Right now that's my biggest concern with purchases. I'm living out of a suitcase and a backpack in case I have to move somewhere else short notice. My living expenses right now are less than a dollar a day, but having somewhere to store things that I buy is a much bigger issue.
