DLC? What's that?

Unless it comes all bundled within a neat little package I'm not interested in (s)crappy little add-ons here and there. I miss the expansion packs of old that seem so rare these days. There's just too much nickel-and-diming done by the industry. They can shove it where the sun don't shine.

Take off your rage goggles and you might discover DLC is like anything else, it varies in quality and value. Some of it is awesome.

I'm not informed what the GOTY edition consists of. (As long as I don't ask the friendly people of the GOG community or ask google)
By checking the steam page for the GOTY game, which for Civ V is this. It used to be on the Civ V page as well, but it got removed when steam workshop support was added if I recall correctly.
But yes, for the full Civ V experience, it's GOTY + Korea/Ancient Wonders double pack + Gods and Kings.

It all depends, but needing every DLC for every game you play no matter what is a compulsion.
That is highly debatable but as I'm not having the right qualification to access the psychoanalytic knowledgebase to handle this topic I don't want to argue with you.

And the root issue is still your OCD which publishers abuse and you smile while they do it.
As I assume you adressing me I would kindly ask you to refrain from labeling my disorders and other mental discrepacies you might been able to deduct from my posts here. That doesn't feel appropraite let alone professional at all.

That said, I just want to add that I think the publishers/game developers actually want to sell their DLCs so they actually advertising them as "Important part of the game enhancing your experience"

It's like a car company showing off their new airbag security system technology in their new models but offers that part as an optional extra. I doubt anyone would even consider people maniacally suffering from ICD-10 F42 OCD just because they bought their new cars with these new extras.

StingingVelvet: 1 - The GotY edition has all the little DLCs. The total price, as far as I see, for EVERYTHING, is $20.

2 - Yes you are crazy, what a "full" game is now-a-days depends on how much OCD you have. Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time but I would never buy the house DLC for it, I don't need it and don't want it. Most of the Civ DLCs are stupid map packs that are completely irrelevant and available for free as mods.

3 - If you love a game or series there is nothing wrong with spending money on it. I spent a total of $100 on Fallout: New Vegas in the end but it was worth EVERY penny. I don't have an antagonistic relationship with publishers and spending money on good games.
This.

I couldn't agree more.

Edit:

actually everythink SV has said in this thread is spot on.

Dont fall for the DLC ripoff. Its really getting ridiculous, they reduce base game content so they can have more DLC to sell.
I wouldn't bother trying to get the complete Civ V game right now, because they'll probably release even more DLC for it in the future.
I don't see wanting the whole experience (ie. all relevant expansion packs, DLC etc.) for a new game any different than wanting classic GOG games include all official expansion packs.

If that's called OCD, fine. Many OCDs were apparently fulfilled recently when GOG added missing expansion packs for many of the classic EA games. Yeah, Alpha Centauri can be called a "complete game" even without the expansion pack, but still.

As for new games and their DLC, for me it is mostly about convenience. "Why don't you just get the good and relevant DLCs, and leave the rest out?". Well, for one thing, how the hell am I supposed to know without playing which DLCs I would consider worth the asking price? Google for opinions for each tiny DLC for each game you are considering?

Meh, far too much hassle for mere _buying_ the game. I personally rather wait for the GOTY version, get all the relevant content in one swoop with a reasonable price, and then make up my own damn mind which DLCs are good and which less useful, by simply playing them. Much easier that way.

With the tactics publishers have started using in regards to DLC, unless its something you really want to play now, just wait for the GOTY edition.

First it started with the Season Pass, now you get that and there is still more DLC released not included with it. It is getting to the point of ridiculousness. Especially when you consider how fast games go on sale.

Thank you!
Bought it all (and the Might and Magic Madness Pack here on GOG on top). *happy*
