In games I'd say about $100-$200 a year. I don't think I've gotten a "new" game in quite a while to be honest, I'm all about waiting for sales.
How much?
Too damn much. Most I just let sit, and don't play for months.
Empire total war alone cost me almost 400 AUD.
Last year the only new game i bought was Fallout 3. Overall I probably did not spend more than 400 bucks including extra 1GB of ram i got just to play f3.
This year only Empire and Huxley interest me from new games and there are still plenty of games in my library which i did not yet play (lionheart from gog, Pathologic, Broken Sword Trilogy, Gothic Trilogy so I won't be spending much.

Woah, new video card or have you found somewhere even more of a ripoff than EB?
I probably spend around $1000 between upgrades, games, DLC & the like. Hell just this year GOG has gotten over $100, about as much as I've spent on xbox stuff
Hehe. New card. 4850.
Collectors edition cost me 110 bucks in Game.
but i think it will cost me more since i have 430W PSU and the card needs 450W.
Per year. (All prices in AUD)
Before Digital distribution, $80
Digital Distribution: $200-400
Not much on upgrades, mayhaps $100 every couple of years. PC initial cost around $1600
It varies. Since I work as a trainee, I only get a very meager salary, but since I live at home it's actually quite a lot of money, so I can spend it on whatever I want. In February now, I bought three games from GOG, two games from a bargain bin, the Forgotten Realms Archives (12 games) on eBay, and a indie game called The Quest, totaling up to around a $70-90 or something I guess...
But other months I might not buy anything at all. Well, since I joined GOG, I've bought at least a single game each month.
I am spending 20$ for a month nearly 2400$ for a year.

ElPixelIlustre: wat?

240$, sorry. :P
Last year I bought maybe 1 boxed PC games.
I did sponsor the indie community a lot, by buying Mount & Blade, Depths of Peril and Eschalon book 1 and the Telltale games Sam and Max both series and SBCGFAP.
I also spend some money on ebay to buy some good gamecube games for my wii (Ikaruga) and a wavebird controller.
And some wii games.
And of course GOG.
In all approximately EUR 800,-
Oh my! Last year got rather expensive for me :)
On average I bought 3-4 retail + 2 download games a month for a total of $1200
i'd say 200-300... i am about to upgrade my comp tho. i think my memory or mobo is starting to get on the fritz, and honestly, my athlon 3300 ain't really cutting it.
my game expenses also went up when i got a ps3, console games are so much more expensive then computer ones.
Before 2009 the last game I bought was Starcraft + brood war for 10€ back in 2002. Then I found GOG, bought painkiller and Gothic 2, then I found Steam, almost bought Bioshoc (missed the promo for a few hours), regretted not buying left 4 dead, and yesterday I bought Lost planet, which Is probably the worst of the 3, but still worth 5$.
That's pretty much it, though I must say I became a fan of digital distribution, and I absolutely love the fact that GOG is DRM-free.
Steam kinda sucks though because the games cost the same as on the store and if I absolutely must pay the full price I'd rather have something physical to grab. That means I'll probably only buy games on steam when they have promos..
Depends largely on what comes out or I randomly discover. Lately I find myself getting back into gaming, which is especially handy since I missed out on a great many PC classics along the way all these years. GoG has gotten a fair bit so far this year, and that only looks to increase from here as more of my style of games come aboard.
This year, seems likely that I'll go past the $1,000 mark----though part of this depends on when I can manage to find a job again. : (
