Just wondering how large the entire GOG catalog is as of right now. I'm wondering how large of an external hard drive I should invest in seeing I own a very substantial portion of the titles here. My 2 TB internal is as it's limit for GOG games, as it also has lots of music and other files. My guess is a 4 TB would be big enough, but I've seen a 5 TB Seagate drive as well and more the better. When in doubt, I suppose I could just get multiple extra drives and break it in half :)

But how large IS the catalog in byte size?

Edit: I was eying this one

I have absolutely no clue.
Believe it or not, I was just asking myself the same question! :)
I don't think it even reaches 2 terabyte, even if you include mac versions.

Do note if you buy a really big one and something happens to it you get twice the headache then if you divide your data in 2x2 tb.

I've got a healthy collection and just passed 0.5 TB. Windows English versions only, with all extras for those games I have.

I bet that MaGog guy could give you an answer.

How bored is JinseiNGC224 today? :P
I think GOG is a safer backup atm than any HDD. And if ever the danger will be imminent of its shutdown, i'm sure we'll have ample time to download our games.

On the contrary, I keep all my stuff on a 2nd HDD also just in case.

You have too much money to spend ;). One of the reasons why I started buying games was that I wouldn't need to worry about backups.. It's done automatically by the service provider. In the current case GOG.

lol nah, I actually just had one lying around so I was like "Why the hell not?"
I have two copies of all downloads as well. Not because I don't trust GOG's longevity, but because my internet connection sucks balls, and I'd hate to have to re-download any of it.

I completely agree with you, but even GOG states that you should always back up your games in the case their service goes down. It would be neat, for me at least, to be able to play DRM-free, offline games on a different machine where I don't have the temptation of the internet. Not that I've been without the internet for over 15 years, but the thought is nice at least! For that to happen I would have to back up games and move the drive to an offline only machine in my home.

But to just have them backed up on a drive either attached or detached is the ultimate wish here. It never hurts to have files backed up in multiple spots. And if you really care, the money spent isn't a waste.

Also do so in case of a net drop or something and need to reinstall.
