Gyrocoptor: Had a 3DS since October. It's a decent system, but only now are the games beginning to look good. If you do get it, I highly recommend getting Resident Evil: Revelations and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy.

The eShop games aren't worth purchasing, save for the Nintendo published ones (Dillon's Rolling Western is pretty damn awesome) and anything by WayForward (Shantae and Mighty Switch Force!).

AacRrc: You mean Revelaitions!
I personally believe the 3DS is just a handheld Nintendo 64, which in my opinion is pretty good. Shantae is an amazing game.
I never had an N64, so this is perfect for me!
The vita is getting a port of the MGS HD collection.

you could look into that as well.

Technically you could call the DS the same thing since it ran an expansive version of Super Mario 64 (multiplayer plus four characters to play, minigames, and a re-working of some of the levels to take advantage of new characters.... I think there's some new levels and stars too). At the same time, you could have called it part gamecube, because of Metroid Prime: Hunters. Meanwhile, 3DS has a graphically updated version of Star Fox 64 and of course LoZ: OoT.
Man, it's much more worth it to get a PS3 and the MGS HD collection than a 3DS for a single multiplatform game (even if it is in 3D).
Sounds like me and the Vita ( Uncharted)

I got one for Christmas, and I love the design and I havent run into any problems yet (Of course the only game I have so far is OoT

I love it.

The 3D is cool, but I think the device gets a lot of bad press from people who don't want or dislike the 3D effect. People tend to forget that if you turn it off, you still have what is effectively a DS2.

SimonG: No TV. And that would also get me Ocarina of Time and (hopefully) Majoras Mask later on.
Oh, okay. Well, be aware that the battery life is pretty lousy on the 3DS, and there is only one analog nub on the device (the new Resident Evil has an attachment that adds a second one).

The battery life is only lousy if you play it with max 3D and brightness and sound blasting, I can get a good 6 hours off of mine without much and it works just fine with1 analog nub.
I wanted to get a 3DS simply to enjoy Pokemon, Mario and Zelda games but orcishgamer talked me out of it and proposed a DS Lite, simply because Pokemon games play in a DS Lite as well, and it also has backwards compatibility. I ordered it on Saturday along with Pokemon Platinum and Chrono Trigger. :-D

I already have the original, and I need the 3d for the games. (Chrono Trigger is awesome, btw)

I think it is settled. I'm only contemplating if I should order it now or wait until MGS is released....

If you are playing regular DS games, perhaps. Nintendo themselves quote 3-5 hours battery life playing 3DS software, depending on WiFi, brightness and 3D. Compare that to the 15-19 hours on the DS Lite on the lowest brightness setting.
it needs a bigger screen and the 3D is a gimmick, it's cool for about 15 minutes but quickly gets shut off once you look around and realize how fucked up your eyes are.

it's tolerable on a low setting, with occasional crank ups for cool scenes, but all in all I find myself only turning it on for the sake of "well, I paid for it so I might as well use it."

outside of the gimic-ness, it's fairly solid as a game system with smooth frame rates and clear visuals. it's got a solid feel to it (the DS felt like crap and the PSP feels a little weak, if that adds anything ...) and is rather comfortable to play.
Is a 3DS good?

Well, I had mine stolen a month ago on a cross-country trip along with a couple games. The result? Not a week later I was ordering a new one. I can't travel without it or work without it, and it is my portable source of entertainment. I love it to death and hope the guy who stole mine dies in a fire.

You shouldn't be playing a video game for 15 hours

SimonG: Ever considered buying a handheld for just one game?

Because I am now ....
No, but I have bought consoles for a single game, so close enough. I don't know, though, given the 3DS weirdness I'd wait until that was out and had garnered some decent reviews.
