Hey all,
I was wondering, Im really tempted to buy some of these games, Most chiefly Castles/Castles 2 but i own the original disks, is this any different? Like is it Ported to use Windows? Or is it just the Game+DoxBox deal?
Thanks for any help, I'll definatly be buying the old games i dont have like the Simon Series i was just curious since i own some like Castles and Kingpin.
It's modified to use the modern Windows OS (XP/Vista). All software comes patched with the latest official patch, manual, and any other extras. Older games are sold with a DOSBox wrapper or ScummVM. Usually they are self-contained installers that require, for the most part, almost no intervention by the end user and they install just like any other games. Older games may require some fiddling to work on your particular machine but that is somewhat rare.
Hope that helps and I'm sure I have missed something so if I did someone else will correct it.
Or of JudasIscariot missed anything, it's probably in the "About Us' page.

The GOG team are doing a lot of really neat stuff, so it's actually a good read :)
the games you mention (castles and Castles 2) are running with DOSBox I believe. I have bought them and they run fine so there should be no worries.
What is nice is that you can redownload them anytime you need with no issues.
Welcome to the community and enjoy the DRM Free games.
you install the game, using their custom installer.
you'll see an icon or two on the desktop, youll double click on it, and your game will begin.
Well, I think LordRikerQ would have liked something more specific :-P
For what I know, there is no "special conversion" for DOS games here, only just DOSBox+game deal....
Predictable, anyway, because DOS games need a direct access to hardware that is utterly impossible to make "compatible" with modern Windows systems without reprogramming them....
Thanks for your help, GOG is great, I got the free games and liked how they worked and then got Castles 1+2 its great not having to muck about with DOSBox, and for the most part they seemed to work fine except Castles 1 in full screen distorts the color until i put it in a window. Minor but Im so glad to finally be playing these games again in all their glory. I cant wait to see what else Gog puts out.
They'd make my century if they did a Quest for Glory 1-4 pack

Try altering the "output=..." line in the DOSbox config file, that solved a similar problem I had in another game.
