I'm going to buy this later today. The $4 price tag also provides the perfect opportunity to upgrade my TF2 account.

I bought it, but after 7 hours it starts to be tiring. And I could play Space Rangers for weeks!

Maybe it is because i did not yet find ideal ship for me. I just unlocked my first L class ship - Big Bus.

overworked pieces of crap is what they are; playing with a shiny turd may be funny for a while, but eventually you gonna have to flush the toilet and wash your hands.

Skyrim and the like may win game of the year awards, but spaz will probably be a contender for game of the decade.

it's like who the fuck plays Portal 2 anymore, yet Thief 2 is still getting fan made missions. or red dead redemption, that game swept the GOTYs last year but who even remembers it now?

SPAZ is just that perfectly balanced between it's graphics, mechanics, and complexity ... it's like a space sim version of tetris.

part of the game's limits are that for how much unlocking ships and tech is a major element of the game's playability, it's kinda got a rather limited amount.

there is supposed to me more of all that coming in future content patches, but I can't really say that I have found my perfect ship either.

I must be in the minority but I didn't have a very good experience trying out SPAZ.

I played the demo on Steam and was having fun with it. Everything was going along fine as I was doing simple missions learning the game and it's screens.

Then I got a mission to go kill some bad guys who were trying to get away. No problem I thought. So I zone in and just before getting there a tutorial screen gives me the dire warning that I Mass Retreat if things go badly and that I should not be hesitant to do so as needed. Hmm, I thought to myself, maybe this is going to be rough. I was playing on normal difficulty by the way.

So, I zone in and something(s) begin firing on me immediately. I try to spin around to fight back. Then in a moment I am dead.

Here is the bad part. I decided if this game kills me like this the first time I encounter opposition on normal difficulty in the tutorial lessons no less, it must be too hard for me. So I exited out and uninstalled it. :-(

Maybe I just got unlucky and should give it another chance?

uhm .... that's like quitting after your first grunt gets killed in a command & conquer title.

everything outside of your mother ship is cannon fodder, when I was talking about clearing out my Rez bank attacking space stations the ships I was using were 1 hound (replacement cost of 75) and 2 Gyros (replacement cost of 5 rez) ... my rez bank is 2,500.

I had to have replaced at least 50 ships since the little ones go down in within seconds of coming under fire from a space station, thankfully you can set your mother ship to automatically start replace lost ships as soon as they pop.

To pretty much everyone in this thread: would you recommend this game to someone who was a massive fan of Star Control 2/UQM?

I'm thinking of getting it if/when they remove the online activation.

I couldn't tell you 'cause I haven't played Star Control.

Because I said no AAA games this year were better than SPAZ, Sequence, or Bastion. I stand by that statement, actually Batman AC was the best AAA this year, not DE: HR or Skyrim.
